opinions for upgrading the steering set up on a yj dana 30. i was running 33s and it got hard to turn at time on the trails, now i am going soa and running 36s. i have been searching for upgrades to do a over the top steering or high steer or maybe even ram assist but want some feed back for what others have used and liked or hated. this is a trail only vehicle if that helps. thanks for any info in advanced.

I like the terra knuckle. A friend has one on his xj.

there are tons of steering setups. you have basic tie rods to full steering setups. Currie, Poison Spyder, Teraflex, Down East off road, JCR, Off road only, rustys off road, rock krawler all make kits it just depends on your preference.

Im running ORO's kit.. it's pricey but probably the easiest thing I have ever installed on my jeep (well maybe not). It fit PERFECT!

If you're having problems turning that sounds like the steering box to me?

If it's trail only I would just get someone to make you a beefy draglink and tierod and run it as is.

A small ram hydro assist unit would probably help you out. With the SOA you could do the WJ knuckle upgrade. We can help you out with that if you want.

Call me.

Andy

I have the Down East Offroad kit on the XJ. No problems and I have installed a few!!

what does the wj conversion consist of? do u need both knuckles or just the passenger side? any axleshaft lenght issues u have to deal with? i plan on getting some one piece chromoly shafts, does that change anything? would i have to run different calipers and rotors. i did a search and could not find many specifics.

Get you a 99 durango steering box. It is a direct bolt on application! even the splines for the pitman arm are the same! If you get one that has the snow plow ports, I have heard you can use them for ram assist. I got mine off of carpart.com for $54 delivered. It Is a bigger gear inside and will allow you to turn easier. Also Talk to Joel on here or goto www.webwheeling.com he goes by the user name Joel on both sites. He just did the same conversion and I think he said he loved it! and I beleive he is is running 35 or 36 in tires.
