At home mine might be a 55torx. (good for only seat belts and my rear track bar)

In my jeep it must be the grease gun.....Like I'm going to climb under my jeep in the mud to find that squeek..

I got a few things in my tool chest that get a good "WTF is this?" when somebody runs across it. Usually some jig, fixture, or wrench that I've made up for some specific purpose. Like a 1-1/2" combination wrench cut and rewelded into a "L" shape.

Not a really obscure tool, but more of an obscure aquisition... I found a huge pipe wrench, at least 2ft long, sticking out of the ground when we were walking our dogs. I'll bet it was expensive, I think whoever was installing the water lines in our neighborhood misplaced it and it got bulldoxed under. I never would have thought to buy one, but it has come in handy for adjusting tierods and other bigass nuts.

this.

$0.01 to the first who can name it's function.

Someone hafe assed a scope mount for a m44 or a 91-30 Mosin - Nagant Rifle, by the way its a late issue one with a round Rec about 10 mill of them out there... could be a m-38 but thats a cut down of the M1891 or to be correct the M1891-30 and they were made in several countrys even the good old USA..... Question Why weld when you can get the real scope mount like what the used in the wars and on the guns for 100 years?

well, before my tool box was stolen, I had a home made Snap ring plier. Needed one, stores were closed, Had some 3/8" or 1/2" round bar, so I cut two pieces. Bent them into two "V" shapes, ground the bottom of the "V" flat, cut the ends flat so to grab snap rings and Zip tied them together on the flats at the bottom of the "V" Worked like a charm and rebuilt my T-18 using them.

A chain rivet extractor. Anyone who checks out my box always asks what it is. I've had it since I was 12?? racing BMX at Tanglewood.

Bicycle spoke wrench

PVC coupling that was used and marked as a Ford 9" seal install tool

many wrenches bent or ground down for a special use

Steering wheel retainer tensioner

(not a steering wheel puller, the damn thing that presses in on the column to let you remove the snap ring)

A conglomeration of wrenches that were hacked and welded to make loosening a distributor hold down on a SBC easier.

An a 6' 3/8" extension.
Yes it is 6' long.
I have no idea why but I was at te flea market and it was for sale for $2...I couldnt resist

geez, who couldn't resist that!

What's gonna be funny, is the time you need it, the bolt is going to be 6' 1" away and you'll have to put the 2" extension on it :D

Here's one that a lot of folks don't use any more, but I need for my truck.

I've got other obscure items like a full set of tools for disassembling the head of an OM352 Mercedes engine, and a fan nut removal tool for a Pinz engine.

a metric bolt with 2 nuts welded on it.. a low-buck 14MM hex tool..

Or, a 1" long, deformed piece of 3/4" brass tube.. used for removing the fuel injectors on a Cummins..

On a similar note, a VW lug bolt, 17mm head, with a nut welded to the shaft. Drain plug remover for a beetle transmission!

Or, the weird, semi-circular piece of EMT that I cut and welded a small handle to in order to hold the brushes back while I slid the armature into the motor assembly for my Samurai wiper motor. Yeah, I rebuilt it. I'm that cheap. :flipoff2:

....
x2 I got one of those and couldn't remember what it was until I needed it-I was tearing apart the tilt column on my heep to tighten up the death bolts inside!

I'll need a pic and explanation of use on this one! Hoping I never need to make one, but my money is on sooner than later! :D

I have a pc. of 3/8" round x 20"(?) hotroll w/ a nice radius on the end... picked it up to do something with, but figured it was the perfect "tool" to hold my PS pump/alt at the correct tension...

BB's for plugging a ripped brake line... also carry a couple 18ga. hypodermic needles (but in the first-aid kit)... best thing made to dig a splinter out with!

Scalpal, forceps (both rat-tooth Adson and Kelly style), rongeurs, hemostats, and othe rmisc surgical tools leftover from my animal neurosurgery days.
Amazing how usefull they've been for cleaning, scraping, clamping, grabbing etc.
Great compliment to the purple nitrile gloves (highly suggested!).

All the friends always joke about how I have everything in my tool box when we are wheeling but when they need something I have it. But the weirdest thing I have is toliet paper for when your stuck in the woods and nature calls or a flare for some unknown reason I ended up with it.

i don't think i really have anything strange in my box.... probably b/c my box is small and i have no room for tools i don't need and use..... but of what i DO carry in my toolbox i suppose the fact i carry a wrench i made to hold the crank pulley on a honda makes NO sense what-so-ever....

-Erik <--- loves his brinkman LED headlight! it's so stylish...
