Monster Energy NASCAR series???

I've never seen so many words in a thread about driving in circles and fighting centrifugal force @Hurley

Its how racers keep their jobs!:D

I feel confident there is room for a new 'stock' car series, similar to DTM and BTCC and V8 supercars here in America. That is all the racing I watch. It's real racing, with cars that I can theoretically buy at the dealership. If racing is supposed to improve the breed, I don't understand how the manufacturers put money into a race series that has so little to do with actual road cars they sell to make money.

Would be bad ass to see a legit Chevrolet SS battle a Dodge charger battle a Mustang on a road course with only roll bars and sticky tires. Then you'd see who makes the best cars and who the best drivers are.

Ford needs to make a legit V8 rwd sedan to compete.

That series exists and no one watches it because no one covers it. Or is it no one covers it because no one watches it? www.gotransam.com www.imsa.com etc

Yea...There are series out there, it's just surprising that the Big 3, or 4, put so much money into NASCAR still, when the cars are so far removed from road car tech. I do watch IMSA occasionally, when it's on a normal TV channel.

Gone are the days of win on Sunday, sell on Monday. NASCAR is too big to fail/pull the plug on and divert attention to other series. Car tech is an evolutionary process of trying to win/be safe. People want to see high speed, big crashes and consistency...they don't care about the stocker that'll hit 100mph on 1/4mile straight.

You live around an hour from an active IMSA venue...well worth the price of admission.
Virginia International Raceway
April 28-30 Pirelli World Challenge
August 25-27 IMSA Race Weekend

Last I knew... The factory money had pretty much dried up in NASCAR, for that very reason. (and, when the COT came a long, there was no real brand recognition.)

Anyone know, has this changed since they scrapped the COT.

(The COT...Sheesh!o_O)

AMEN Bro!:bounce:

But would it get the factories back involved? Hell, at least as far back as the 60's, factories were providing stuff like the "427 mystery motors" and "Body in white" Plymouths to Petty Enterprises! Not sure they would want to deal with "bring your best off the assembly line"

Oh, and the Insurance industry would probably have a cow, marketing performance on that level!

ANd bringing the topic back to "new series sponsor"... Can Monster really infuse the kind of money, ("percentage of profit" money?) that R J Reynolds was able to? Maybe none of them have since the "Cup" days!

Hmmmmm...

Well, Ford must have ponied up some BIG money to get Stewart Haas to wear a blue oval, and Toyota appears to have the biggest budget in the sport right now (funneled through TRD), etc....

So, there's still money around...

And @ol'Jeeps Danica might not belong in a cup car, but I'd still like to bang her..I mean,,swap some spit with her...paint..swap paint with her. Oh you know what I'm trying to say..lol

She finished 24th in points last year, so she's apparently better than more than half of the registered field of drivers. That's all I'm going to say about that. :p

Seriously though, that woman is great for publicity. She can stay as long as she wants as far as I'm concerned.

So I heard today on the radio that all the races this year are set up like the all star race was. I liked that format for 1 race but I think doing each one this way and all the new rules will draw a lot of folks away.

NASCAR definitely seems to be going in a downward spiral but this is coming from someone who never really kept up with it

I think they should race Daytona on the beach and on the asphalt like they used to. I'd watch that!

Short answer is No...BUT they carry with them an image. So infusing dollars? Maybe not. They are paying a fraction of what NASCAR was asking for a title sponsor which was roughly 1Billion over 10yrs to replace Sprint. Monster is paying 20 Million a year for the title sponsorship with a 2 year agreement with an option for 2 more. Obviously NASCAR had to find value in this somehow as there were a handful of other interested parties. That value seems to be an image which identifies with that new generation of fan that France talked about during the CES panel. Parking lots full of flatbills, vape clouds and brodozers. But hey, its butts in the seats which the sport is lacking.

As a Fan that started listening to NASCAR on the Radio, I still watch it. Can't kick the habit! Hope this years point system get some action back into racing. I also enjoyed Scott's reminiscing, which brings up a couple of stories. As for comparing Drivers & Talent, when Jeff Gordon was winning his Championships, & Nascar started racing at Indy, Jeff got the opportunity to test out a Real Indy car. I forget the high ranking car, but Jeff made a few test laps in it. After some minor adjustments, he did a 10 lap run, setting a speed Well within Qualifying times! He wasn't out to wreck the car. Next up, the Indy driver did the same tour in Gordon's car. He did ok, but could't get the "Feel" of it. "Retired" Gordon, also just ran the 24 hour Rolex Indy race at Daytona. His teammate & he, Won the Race! I've never cared for Indy style racing; no fenders to rub! As for Danica, She may have been a famous Indy driver, but she Can't handle Nascar. She's been given everything Anyone should need. Many top Nascar drivers & re-tired drivers say the Same! At her Press conference recently, she says she hope to break into the top 15. How long can she ride the "popularity" scene, before no Sponsor will pick her?

Speaks volumes about that second half of the field. I believe the term is "Field fillers" :shaking:

Seriously though, that woman is great for publicity. ...QUOTE]

No doubt about that at all. Only reason she has a ride!

But I think it's publicity aimed at one demographic and alienates another. I think it's like the influx of Foreign drivers. Yes, it draws 10 new fans... but alienates 100. (This might have some basis in fact, looking at the stands these days.) And sadly, the 10 it draws are the kind that will bounce from one thing to another depending on what is "trending" during any period! NASCAR forsakes their roots, (Darlington, Southern 500), for the California Speedway, in '97. "Fans" showed up for a couple of years. (oh... and we were one of the teams paid to drag our back-up car out of the hauler and pull a "1" off the door and put it in the field to fill the field!) NASCAR trashes its greatest historic race to go to California. And now...they removed 26% of the seating because they couldn't fill the place! (They said it was because of "the recession." That's bullshit because through all the years, since '1977, that I was in racing, we had several recessions and racing flourished...the stands were full) NASCAR played to a crowd who moves like the wind!

(I know they have brought back the Darlington race, but I don't think its called the Southern 500 anymore. At least it is back on Labor Day weekend! And BTW. ALL the big sports seem to be flourishing...NFL, NBA, etc. So I'm guessing "fans" are still spending money for tickets!)

Stock Car racing is a grass roots sport. NASCAR has alienated the Grass roots fan. The guys who lived and breathed NASCAR. The Guy who, Drove a Monte Carlo, Smoked Winstons, chewed Skoal, Drank Budweiser, wore Wranglers, etc. Each of those empty seats at the races represents those fans!

Oh, and Butts in the seats is of no concern to NASCAR. Its all about TV money. That's why the stands are being painted the way they are. THAT is a sad indictment of the state of the sport!

isnt $20m per year the same as $1B for 10?:)

EDIT: OMG!! EPIC MATH FAIL!!!!

This is the reason I stick to my local Nascar short track racing..............Its not perfect and it has flaws as well. BUT its about as close to grass roots as we can get. Its still expensive, and theres no TV time for it persay. But there is a race somewhere about every weekend from March to October, be it Dirt or Asphalt. Go out and support the local short tracks...........They need all the help they can get
