2019 Silverado

Think it was 4.5L but yes it was scrapped during the bailout, put on a shelf and never used. It was just too big of a motor for the 1500 and put out nearly the same power as the lb7 when it came out in 01. A 3.x liter diesel is much better suited for a 1500, imo.

The new motor sounds like cool, but that 10 speed automatic is where it's at!

Also, I wish they'd make it look more like a damn Tundra...wtf is up with that? GM really needs a better design team.

I don't think the 4.5 would have been too big for a half ton truck...hell, the LB7 only made 235/500 in 2001.

Those in bed boxes are pretty cool. Kinda looks like a removable rambox.

I've said for a long time that I need to go work for them....but they might get mad when I present them with a good looking truck that has a solid axle and the option for a manual transmission :D

I usually just take the bulbs out all together if one of them goes out. I've had really good luck with bulbs in both of my newer trucks. I had my 99 for 7 or 8 years before I ever put the first headlight bulb in it.

A little FYI. If you click the parking brake down like 1 click or so (not enough to engage it though), the running lights turn off. At least they did on the late 90s trucks.

I know. It's also very annoying that 99 was the only year model that you couldn't disable the auto headlights with the dome light button. You could start the truck with the parking brake on though and they'd stay off, but it had to be engaged enough for the light on the dash to be on...and if that was on, it would ding going down the road. That jewel got a resistor in it and has been disabled!

Hopefully they have finally figured out how to keep the day running lights from burning out...

They think they have, with LED strips... Just costs 100x more when it goes out.

My brother found that out the hard way with his 2015 Ram. The fancy LED running lights and signals mean you haveto replace the entire headlight assembly when they go out. And arent covered under warranty either.

This is what I can't figure out.. why add complexity and cost just for looks, literally nothing else. $8 headlights And $2 turn signal bulbs worked for 100 years. The new Chevy wouldn't sell if it didn't have CAN-BUS connected exterior lights?

Me too. I thought the baby Duramax that's been talked about for years was a 3.something liter V. Did that get scrapped for an inline?

Disagree completely. My car has a 3.0 bi-turbo diesel. It is perfect for that car. But it has the aerodynamics of a car, weighs 3500lbs, and will never pull a trailer. My mom had a 3.0 VW Touareg TDI and now has a 3.0 diesel Grand Cherokee. It is "sufficient" for those SUV's, but still a bit lacking if you really need to accelerate or are towing a few thousand pounds. I think a 4.0-4.5L would be perfect for a truck. Tons of torque, but still small enough to gain a bit of fuel economy compared to the big trucks. I was really hoping the latest Chevy 1500's would get the 4.5L and some type of bed storage so that I would know what to buy in 5-7 years, haha!

Looked like a "me too" idea to compete with Rambox that wasn't as well executed. It appears that it would be difficult for an average height guy to access from the outside, and if theres a bunch of stuff in the bed, you can't open them. Removable is a nice touch at least. They look really narrow though. The Rambox is wide enough you can actually fit a chainsaw in there.

Average height?

Wasn't the 4.5 designed with reverse flow heads? I always wanted to see it get made just to see how well that worked.
