Another public service announcement:

Unless you want your kid to end up with some hideous email account name like LPT23.49.11112@Gmail.com in 10 years or so. You ought to go make them one now.

That may all sound ridiculous, but there's something like 4.3 BILLION email accounts out there. The options are dwindling every day.

And if you create it, the chances of your kid being that weirdo with BigDickMcGee69696902@email.com decreases...

Personally, I got lucky, and snagged my full name @gmail.com many years ago. Which looks pretty professional, and it's not embarrassing to tell people. Over the phone I don't even have to spell it out since they have my name info on their computer anyways. I highly recommend it if you can get it. If you got a common name, good luck. All the more reason to try now while there are still some variations out there.

I tried to do the same for my kids today. Succeeded with my daughters name, but not my son. His I had to add month/day of his birthday on the end to make it work.

And if you do Gmail, you can link your kids account to yours so you can spy on them. That's a pleasant plus.

Here's the quick link for GMAIL on creating your kids accounts.

As an aside, I'm not a Google fan... I prefer DuckDuckGo for a search engine, and I've tinkered a little with Proton Mail which is much more private and less... Big Brotherish. But I haven't fully committed to it yet.

I snagged sanlee.com back in the late 90's. Worth a few bucks every year to always have the same email address, no matter which internet provider I currently have, and I don't have google scanning my emails for targeted advertising or who knows what. I don't care for folks that use gmail addresses for business...it's too easy/cheap to have a domain or use the company domain email.

Also...when I post something on CL, it says in the ad that I won't reply to emails from public/unverifiable services like gmail. Has to be a hosted domain or an ISP address (windstream, verizon, etc, etc. Cuts out 99% of dealing with spammers. If all you have is gmail/etc, you are SOL.

Guess I got lucky too. The only problem is that there is a cat in Illinois with the same name but without the "dot" in the middle. So I get his shit from time to time. He bought a Honda, joined SweatCoin, joined a dating site and I get regular updates from his circle of friends. He also is a member of a swim club. I've got his Snap Chat too. I've repeatedly told Google but they don't seem to care. I've not taken the step to reach out to him personally but when I get tired of seeing how many times he's been striking out on his dating site I might do so.+

edit: Evidently he's a Steelers fan too. Just got a new email saying the shit he ordered is on it's way!!

Cancel the order for him, change his dating profile.
