Wheres our resident trout experts? Im going with my dad (not an expert, but knows more about it than I do) up to Rural Retreat, Va to this place Cedar Springs Trout Farm on tuesday. Ive never been trout fishing, but have caught plenty of bass and crappy and cats.

Tips? Tricks? How not to die?

If you're going to a trout farm you have nothing to worry about.

good. Honestly, Im only going to spend time with him. And its another excuse not to go to work.

find out how they charge you for the fish. some of them fish farms charge by the pound and every fish is 2-3 pounds and you catch 10+ a $4.00 a pound it adds up quick.

Its $60/day AFAIK. Hes been several times and is paying, so I assume he knows what itll cost. Thats interesting how they do that though.

the trout pounds around here are "free to fish" but you have to keep the fish and pay them to clean them.

that looks more like a private stocked section of a creek/river.

white spinner and a gold spinner will cover the basics for any creek unless your fly fishing

It is a private stocked creek. We are not fly fishing. I just about fell out of my chair at the thought of me and him trying to fly fish. Thats a hospital trip waiting to happen.

I’ve been to that place. It’s pretty nice. $60/day. 6 fish limit. Limited number of people each day. I think they release 6 fish per person in the morning up at the top of the stream. We used nightcrawlers and powerbait. My father in law goes up there fairly often with customers for his job.

Don’t even bother trying to catch the golden trout. They don’t even pay attention to anything you throw at them.

If you would have any interest in "real" trout fishing, try some of the further parts of Wilson creek. Native trout as big as some of the stocked rainbow most people catch...

Wow, that last post came across very assholeish. I apologize!!!
Hope you and your dad have fun!
You're good. Like I've said, im only going because it's my dad and hes paying for it. Depending on how this goes, I might try somewhere else later.
