Tow rig tires.... again.

None of it makes any sense. Some people claim that Nittos go for 70k, but on a truck that towed heavy and got almost all highway miles, I couldn't get past 45k. Meanwhile, Rob's Ford was doing 100% highway and burned up a set of BFG KO2s in 25k miles, but I've got a set that's going to go to 60k driving back and forth in town.

Makes no sense. I see people praising and hating both tires, claiming excellent and awful mileage from both. Maybe it’s driving style, lack of rotations or checking air pressure?

BFG and Nitto are probably to two most debated E range truck tire in history.

I got really good mileage out of toyo h/t on my dually. Didnt record the mileage but it was easily 60k probably 70k. I decided to try the toyo a/t2 this time around. Maybe 2000 miles so far with nothing bad to say.

I’ve hauled with Toyo MTs and they were great but loud and lasted 50k with 10k trailer behind it, my cooper st Maxx towed nicely after they wore in a little but not to great in mud or grass. I like Michelin ltxs for simple non Aggressive tow tire tho they are all around great tire for price.

I’ll let @Jody Treadway give you my recommendation since I don’t have a diesel anymore.

I’ve got 72k on my current set and they may make 100k....they tie a lot but not 26k lbs like Shawn’s long bed 2 rig hauler.

I have had good luck with toyo a/t and r/t are nice. I had the r/t last 55k miles with rotations. Terra grapplers were on my truck when i bought it and didn't last very long. May have been bc they were 8 ply on a 2500 idk.

I've run Michelin ltxs, general grabber red letters, and toyo rt's.

The michelins where stocker sizes and wore out at around 28k with frequent heavy towing. Queit tire, good road manners, no go off-road and was really expecting 50k out of these. Ran two sets of the ltxs before abandoning them.

35x 12.5 r17 grabber red letters where the hardest compound tire I could find at the time. Rode pretty well, could hear them roar especially after some wear and these where done at 32k. slid alot in the rain, some almost interesting situations...

Switched to the Toyo Rt's when they came out and got 33k on the first set. Good on and off road, relatively quiet. Satisfied enough that I bought another set of these the next go around. Since then I've quit hauling as frequently and they'll probably make it to 45k.

This has all been on my 05 Cummins 2500 4x4. I was pulling my 10 ton goose loaded with auction finds and grossing an average of 22-26k a couple times a month at roughly 500 miles a month. Also pulled the boat nearly every weekend for a 100 mile round trip. Boat weighs approximately 16k with probably 2k on the tongue. Did some mild off-road stuff, mostly blasting down dirt/gravel roads. All in all 30k was about all I could expect out of any rubber under those conditions. And I rotated every 5-7k and closely adjusted air pressure depending on loaded weight or empty. Now I don't do much auction work and mainly use the goose to haul the cj to the trails. Still have the boat, but moved to the water so not hauling it much these days either. Seems E load truck tire warranties are based on bro-dozer truck usage. If you actually tow something tire life is dramatically reduced sometimes 50% of warranty. So pick an e load tire that will suite your needs in terrain and just plan on dropping $1,200 on rubber every couple years.

Went this morning and dropped the dime on a new set of tires. I settled on the Firestone Transforce A/T II’s.$1280 out the door, we’ll see how they do.

Since I'm on the subject of tires why don't the LT tires have any warranty on them. These same tires in non LT sizes had a 60K warranty on em.These had a ZERO mile warranty.I've never bought an LT that did.

Oh come on man...2nd reply...even had a link!
The Cooper AT3 XLTs on my truck currently have been excellent. I've got about 15k miles on them and they are probably 70% tread remaining, which is phenomenal for me. I'm not easy on tires. Quiet on the highway, balance good, ride good, and agreasive enough you don't have to worry about soft/wet ground. Definitely not a mud terrain, but they work great for an all around tire that won't leave you stranded in wet grass.

Cooper usually has a rebate going, and www.discounttiredirect.com also will have rebates around the same time. Plus free shipping and no tax. They are currently $195 each.

Fawk a BFG on a tow rig. I wouldn’t run them if they were free. They don’t last on my truck and have ZERO warranty on them. If they aren’t offering a warranty, they already know they are crap. It happened on multiple sets of tires, so it’s not necessarily an isolated set. It could be me, that I’m a shit driver or whatever. But I’m pretty good about keeping my tire pressures where they need to be and rotated reasonably often.

I had Cooper AT2 for my last set and liked them. Lasted reasonably decent and would have bought them again instead of the Nittos if they hadn’t changed tread design; I wasn’t sure about spending $$$ on brand new tread designs without knowing how others liked them. So I went with Nitto this time and seem to like them.

Bringing this back to the top.The verdict is in on the Firstones.I got just a hair over 60K on them with just one rotation. The rears were almost to the bars and the fronts weren't far behind but all 6 were wore even.No cupping or dips.Probably coulda got more miles out of em w more rotations but its a dually w steel wheels on the inside rears and alum outters with alum fronts so a true rotation requires them to be broke down and swapped on the wheel. If they would have been on my work truck I would have kept running them for a while but we travel alot in this one and a good portion of the time have a trailer w us.Even with those miles they still road pretty good and were quiet. At about 80/85 you could feel one out of balance but it wasnt worth trying to fix at that point.Went today and spent somebody else's Biden bucks on a new set of 6. $1280 tax, tag.title and destination fee. We'll see in about 18 months or so how these did.

I'm currently running the falken ats. Paid right at $800 for the set of four from discount tire direct. Got 35k on them and expect to get another 10k. Good road manners, more grip than a ltx style of street tire, but still struggles in the dirt more than I would like. Price was right and so is the mileage for now
