Several weeks ago I posted that I was being treated for cancer.

At this time I am in the 5th week of 5 for radiation treatments on my throat/neck ( 4 treatments left) .

I have sever blistering on my neck at this time, it sucks like you would not beleive, burns like hell if I sweat, whatfacial hair that is growing is stubble and is aggrivating the situation.

Being not able to shave the area, there is little I can do to releive that but keep covered with a wet towel (this is how I sleep)

The blistering on my neck has been rubbed by my shirt collar and thus broken open the blisters, and again it SUCKS !!!

I have run out of the cream they gave me, and not sure If I'll see a Dr. today or not.

Anyone got ideas to cover this ? NOTHING ALCOHOL BASED, been there, done that and it is VERY painful !

I'd like to find some pure Aloe, the stuff I have now have alcohol in it and burns like hell fire !!

Solarcane is not an option, been told DIRECTLY not to do that.

Ideas ?

My family has always had Aloe Vera plants around the house, which is used for minor burns. We call it the "burn plant"
You just break it open and rub the oozing aloe on the burn.
Maybe this will help. If you lived closer to Mocksville, I could bring you some.Maybe you already have this plant or someone close to you has it.It works really well. Good luck to you!

I wonder if i could mail you some aloe plant leaves? My wife says these plants are easily bought at wal-mart or any nursery.Let me know and we will try to help.:)

x100 on the aloe plant, If you don't end up getting one today, Ill run our aloe plant over after work.. It's not big but it will definitely help a ton.

Cool Yager....i dont think the plant will do good in the mail...and I wouldnt want to wait 3 days if i were blkvoodoo.
Help is on the way!!! Let me know if it works.

Owwwwwwwww.. :(

The part that really sucks, I've been working thru all of the treatments and because of the open sores and the aggrivation of a shirt is the only reason I am off work.

FAWK!! Treatment center just called, the machine is broken, they have to fly a part in.

Good part, no treatment today ( no drive from Clayton to west Raleigh) bad part, I still have 4 treatments left !!

Yager, thanks I'll be waiting for ya.

Dylan, thanks for the offer.

Rich..... Agreed !

Don't have an aloe plant anymore but most plant stores carry them and if Yager cant get it to you let me know and I can get you one that way soon.. I will start looking tonight, need to replace the last one I gave away.......Hope you get better soon. I will ask the wife if they have any tricks they use at Wake Med for stuff like that on your neck. I think I know what she is going to say, Talk to your wife and get one of her pads with the peal of stick on and stick it to your shirt on the inside then fold the wing down on the outside. It will be soft and keep you shirt from rubbing but also let it get air and give you movement. I have seen it used many times. Good trail repair for people when we take a flop......

Let me know if you need anything man....

When I was a kid my mom would cut a potato in half and put it on a burn. It made it feel better for 10-15 minutes or so. My neighbor works with this type of thing all the time. When she gets home I'll ask for advice.

Yager just left, he went out and bought 2 large lookin Aloe plant and brought them over.

  to ya Mike !!

Thanks a bunch !!! It definatly soothed the burn!!

My wife (the RN) said you really need to get some silverdene (sp?) from the Dr. She said that putting stuff on burns will encase the burn and make it worse. She is lecturing me about you getting some meds. Hope this all works out for you.

noxzema is excellent for a sun burn try it

Keep in mind, I'm still b recieving radiation treatments, so anything with a metallic base is not usable at this time ( blocks the radiation)

I'm pretty limited to what I can use till treatment is over. ( soon ! )

That and with the menthols that are in Noxzema, it'll burn like A MF'er for way longer than I care to stand.

Called the center today, they told me to use some stuff called Aquaphor ($17 a jar) and come in to the center early tomorrow and the DR will see me before treatment, and they should have something for me then.

THese burns a re pretty standard with cancer treatment, many of the folks I visit with before hand are also experiancing this.

Aquaphor?

if you can't find it...check the baby section...it's what we used for diaper rash...:D

helps dry skin...petroleum based...

probably will work good for you...

kevin be careful about what you are putting on there.
radiation burns are different than regular burns, and being that you are still recieving treatments, it even further limits what you can put on it.

ask your doctor about radiacare gel, or radiacare gel pads. they can be pricey, but maybe if they are prescribed your insurance will chip in?

just be very picky about how you treat these burns, generally the docs dont want you putting any kind of creams or anything on them.

i wish you well in your recovery.

What about aloe vera plant? Just curious if this is ok?

FAWK !!!

Went to get treatment today, because of the severity of the burn, I have to lay off a week. and then I find out, after trying to push to get what I thought were the last 4 treatments, I have 2 possibly 3 more weeks of this shit !!! Not to mention the recovery time afterward.

Gawd dammit !

looks like I get to apply for short term disablity, cuz I'm outta vacation and personal time. I just wanna work man, I like my job !!

guess i got plenty of time to mow and fix shit around the house now.

anyone got a 1acre EZ UP canopy so I can stay out of the sun ? ( no trees here )

Growing up mom would put vinegar in with the cold water and apply with a towel. The vinegar seemed to remove the sting from the burn. A quick search online for "burn + vinegar" brings up quite a few links. Hope this helps.
