Well, the buggered crank replacement has turned into an engine warming up.

I need advice on cams and oil pumps

I made the mistake of mixing up lifters and camshafts, so it looks like I'll be buying a new cam and lifters.

Anybody recommend a cam? I've had Crower stuff in the past and was happy with it. Mopar? I'd like to stay moderate. I've been getting superb fuel mileage so I'd like to maintain that if possible, but if the power gains are there I'll get over it.

So far
4.2 block and crank (maybe 10 over, didn't look).
4.0 head with GrandCherokee header
MC2100 Carb (I've got various sizes from 1.08 up so I can go larger with different jets and PV if necessary)
GM HEI

Still trying to figure out about what the CR will be.

Also, my dumb ass over torqued my oil pump, and the pot metal housing cracked. Need a new one. Are the high volume units worth the extra cash? Melling, what's decent?

Thanks,
Andrew

Might as well do TBI while you're in there.. ;)

I think we used a Crane cam when we did a very similar build ~10 years ago

For my 258 rebuild, I used a Mopar Performance cam/lifter kit, IIRC it was stage II, and a MP HV oil pump for a 4.0L. No complaints.

Very Tempting

I got the entire head with everything still attached. I could probably get the harness, computes...whatever for very little. Can it be done entirely as a junkyard swap. The CPS is what worries me.

If you mean Cheby TBI, there's a TBI 4.3 I noticed at the yard. How hard is that to do?

Currently a shoestring budget so...just need to get the thing back on the road. EFI will probably have to wait

What about the stock 4.0 cam? I think it was a 93 Grand Cherokee. I didn't see HO anywhere, but... Would that be an upgrade over a stock 77 4.2 cam? Would it work (no fuel pump eccentric I think)?

Excellent question...I rebuilt my 258 with 4.0L parts, but also added FI, so I didnt need the mechanical fuel pump.
