What's the DUMBEST thing you've done recently?

Went to install a secondary electric fan on the Jeep, the gauge of wire I used for the switch was too small, so once I turned it on, the wire may or may not have caught fire filling Jeep with smoke

Had this been a "what have you done in the past year?" then I'd be right there with you. Was anything wrong with my Jeep? Nope. I just wanted to fix a mild suspension issue and swap out the doubler for an underdrive unit.
 
I'm building a test stand at work for some of our air powered spindles. I had everything plumbed out to the Filter/Regulator/Lubricator, assembled up and teflon taped and ready to put the pressure to it. All 1/2" fittings and hoses so we won't have any issues with flow on the supply side and it will flow a whole buncha air.

Walk back over to the compressor, start opening the ball valve, hear air hissing out like a mother near the test station. Did I mention that 1/2" lines will flow a shit-ton of air? Go back over there, double check everything. Make sure all the compression rings for the bowls are tight, fittings are good, regulator is engaged in the threads, etc. One of the bowl rings was snug but not tight, so who knows, tighten it up and give it a shot. Open the ball valve again, more massive hissing. WTF. Of course by the time I can get 40ft from the compressor to the FRL unit, all the pressure is released, so I can't even tell where its coming from, and its too loud and intense to just leave the valve open and let the pressure build up fully. I double check all the same stuff again, try it again, same result. Ok, it's time to get serious. It is all run with rubber airline, so I dismount the FRL from the wall, and carry it over to the compressor. Crack the valve open and air is just pissing out around the back of something. I flip it over and very quickly realize why.

Guess that's what that "extra" 1/4NPT plug in the box was for :D

Yea, hitch coupler. Well, sorta. Got home from a bbq, might have been the workday a couple years ago where we cooked ribs for the volunteers, sitting in the driveway after getting the pit all squared away in its spot, having a cigar, relaxing. Glance over at the truck and I'm squinting at the hitch - but can't see a nut on the bottom... YIKES! No idea how I got home without being passed by a runway bbq pit!
 
Broke my oil pressure sending unit when removing the intake on my truck.
Of course noticed when I cranked the fucker and it sprayed 5w30 all over the underhood compartment and the garage floor.

I do alot of dumb crap, but dont recall most of it, so I guess there's the upside.

Most recently, I bought a bunch of parts for my rig, when I should have know that time and motivation wouldnt allow me to work on it. Esp mixed with my wife adding a Jeep to the fleet, that of course needs to be "upgraded".
 
I was trying to be slick and in a hurry to fix a piece of equipment at work and didn't lock it out...don't ask me how my foot got anywhere even remotely close to the foot pedal to actuate this machine, but it did! I am lucky to be typing this with all 10 fingers! I know better and have seen the devastating effects first hand of what machines, electricity and stored energy can do and I still was that guy! Don't be that guy, ALWAYS ALWAYS lock out the equipment you're working on!

I followed @tlucier from Mebane to the outpost one saturday morning and when we got there standing around bullshitting I am looking at his gooseneck coupler thinking that looks odd with the springy thing in the up position. Yep, dumbass loaded the TJ and drove 90 miles with just tongue weight holding his shit together. I now follow him about a half mile behind with phone ready to start the video and watch the carnage.
Also watched him last week swap balls on his fancy ass bumper coupler that shows tongue weight only to leave the internal pin sitting on top of the bumper. The man is a menace!!!! :driver:
 
I'm glad I'm not the only one who has trouble remembering to latch the gooseneck coupler lol.

Drove from Aberdeen to New Mexico with the 5er on a B&W companion. Dropped it off, drove back to NC via a week stay in Oklahoma. Went to take the Companion out of the bed of my truck and realized I never tightened the lockdown bolt into the GN hole in the bed. Effectively the thing was riding on its own tongue weight. Guess it’s a good thing it’s sold and gone cause I apparently have no business towing :stupid:

Bitch, pleeze! That trailer never moved when I drove my Jeep up on it. If you knew how to load a trailer you’d know there ain’t no damn need to latch no coupler if you got enough weight on it. :huggy: Your sorry ass just don’t get weight distribution. Not my fault you got some light ass trailer that requires you to latch the hitch. I ain’t gonna waste 3 - 5 seconds to latch it. I gots to hit the road and get on the trails! :driver: And you know all about swappin’ balls, don’t ya! o_O

Truthfully, I damn near shit my pants when I saw the coupler unlatched. :eek:

Did same thing on a powerstroke 6.0 stripped threads thought would hold until a volcano of oil filled engine bay my new gravel and concrete patio .

Driving up to Pa...dude slams on his brakes....I slam on mine....couldn't stop quick enough....my truck is totaled....Good bye Ram with 211,000 miles on it...Now looking for another one...FML!!!
