Hurricane Creek

I was up there last year. Only one small area that would be considered "challenging" and with a 2 Dr JK on 35's will be no issue at all. One creek crossing. It's a fun, relaxing ride, you will enjoy it.

The key is to plan ahead. If you know the road well enough you can start to see where you need to either speed up or slow down. Look for a large gap in the big trucks and use it. Sometimes that means rolling 50 mph tailgating the truck in front of you. Other times that means hauling ass ahead and creating that gap yourself.

but since home boy is from outta town im betting 85% chance he gonna drive by it and have to go to harmins den and do a u turn and then back to fines creek, because he will miss the cut for the lake damn road.

Or come in from the other way. Get off at Harmons Den and follow the road back out to the pavement GPS will get you there even to the point where the sign on the road says GPS guidance not recommended. 😛

Thank you all for the information. Sounds pretty doable and I'm looking forward to it. Down here all we have readably available is trail riding through the forests with total elevation changes of about one to two feet!

I've watched several videos regarding the nuances of finding the entrance off I40. @Loganwayne, I'm hoping to prove you wrong...lol.

The last question is at the end of the trail. It appears as you end up picking up "National Forest Rd" which I'm assuming takes you back to civilization. We'll be headed back to the BRP to continue our journey south.

I truly do appreciate your help.

Depends on which way you go. If you take the first left it takes you up to Harmon's Den. Next left takes you to Max Patch. Right takes you south to Jody's ice cream spot. None of them take you back to the BRP. If it were me, I'd roll out to Max Patch, then carry on up to the river, double back to Hot Springs, and then on to Asheville. That, or run it downhill like @cranbiz suggested, head west a few exits, come into Cataloochee from the TN side and make your way back to 276. In either case, it's tough to avoid missing a bunch of the BRP without doing a bunch of backtracking.

Thank you Shawn. Options are nice and I shall follow the path to the ice cream spot! Not too worried about missing a section of BRP since I'm getting to play in the mountains!

I dont know you, but I like your style 👍

All I’m saying is if you see a freakishly good looking tall guy and a short fat guy with man tits and a big beard coming outta the woods in full camo dragging coyotes… just mind your own damn business we may have had another near death experience.

@McCracken

Well I look forward to meeting you and as I see it we’ll have two options. Crack open a cold one and light up a stogie, or you can follow me to the ice cream shop. Either way, I’d love to hear the story!!!

For those that helped (and may still be following this), I wanted to bring this to a conclusion. My wife and I did Hurricane Creek on Friday morning. @Loganwayne, we nailed the entrance on the first try. Somewhat lucky the entrance is currently in the middle of a construction zone at the moment and the I40 speed limit was only 40. Still comes up quickly for anyone new reading this.

There are a few oh crap spots but we made it through without issue. It was a terrific ride and I loved it. Definitely glad we did it. Picture as proof below. Thanks again to everyone for letting me bump an old thread.

Side note for anyone else reading this. We headed home Saturday morning leaving the BRP at Hwy 64, running south to Hwy 178 heading further south eventually hitting I-85.

Early on in our departure from BRP, we ended up passing no less than 75+ Jeeps heading the opposite direction. I wanted to turn around and join the caravan...lol. Curious if there was an event or just your average weekend in the mountains.

It was a local Jeep club "go topless" ride. You didn't miss anything worthwhile unless you're into angry grilles, idiotic names on the side.of the hood and color changing headlight rings.
Glad you enjoyed Hurricane. It's a fun place to play around.

Got it, and although I’m not in to stickers and colored lights, as you can probably tell by the picture, it’s the beauty of Jeep ownership to make it your own. Our local club had a Go Topless event Saturday as well ironically, so I missed them both…lol.

Checking in - any updates on this? The rumor mill is abuzz here in North GA that HC is "closed" - I'm frankly fine with that rumor b/c it keeps folks away LOL - but also planning a trip to WNC and would love to include HC as it's always been one of my favorites bc it's a little different every time.
