Riding lawnmower question

Was mowing the lawn the other day and something occurred to me. The prior time I mowed my yard it had been two weeks between mowings and it was REALLY high. So I set the blades on the highest level 6. This time, I was more on schedule, so I put it back to my normal height of 4. In our front yard, there is a slight ditch that will scalp if I mow it on anything less than 4, but the rest of the yard looks really good at that height so I keep it. I really can't imagine anyone being able to mow on much less than 3 or 4. What kind of lawn do you have to have to mow at 1? Are you like mowing concrete? The guide wheels even touch the ground if I set it to 2.

Reminds me of my Mother, she always wanted it to be about 2". You couldn't tell her that 3 -4 " would look the same, as long as it was cut level. I cut mine at 3". When my 100 year old neighbor was able to cut his, he scalped the ground, & had a terrible uneven yard, but it never killed his grass, like the Pros say it will! You can cut it a little shorter in cooler months, but in Hot months, the taller grass will retain some moister & keep the grass from burning. I Wouldn't bother to keep changing the height!

I don't know what these numbers are, doesn't sound like inches.
I assumes its arbitrary, as most most mowers have a manual adjustment to level it out and move the deck up and down and inch or so.
I have no idea what mine is set at. Maybe 2"? I've just learned about what is high enough I don't have to do it too often and its low enough it matches the closer and weeds and shit.
I'm in the "do whatever the least possible work is because having a super fancy lawn is a bottom priority" camp.

Actually this year I gave up and started paying some neighborhood boys to do it. Worth every penny. They do about every 2 weeks. They cut it... kinda short.

To answer the question - I used the lowest setting on my riding mower once - clearing out a space to put my shed, wanted to knock it down so it would die anyway.
