Any major gripes with the 1st gen sequoias? Gas mileage is probably poor but I’m looking for any negative feedback when they cross 200k miles? For context I would like to switch over to a different car for a growing family.

Never had one but had a buddy that used one for a work truck. Always overloaded with tools in the cargo area and pulling a trailer. I wanna say he was close to 400k miles and I doubt he even performed basic maintenance. I’d drive one lol.

Don’t you have a 2500 Suburban? And growing family? You got another one in the way?

Great for long trips. Sucks driving around town here (shitty ass roads) :flipoff2:

I need to replace Amy’s renegade. That thing is tiny. It was great when it was just her and I. I would consider an older Land Cruiser but those are still going to be a lot of coin. I’m seeing low ish mileage sequoias for $5k-$8k which looks really enticing. The thought of buying a newer suv that big give me financial and technical headaches.

Just get a minivan, absolutely no cool points, but the best practical money we have ever spent. My wife’s is AWD for those hard to get to parking spaces at the mall.

I’m not overly opposed. Amy on the other hand? Yeah, not her exact plan. Who knows. Other than that we were talking about station wagons. Volvo V90 or a VW.

My wife was adamantly against a minivan until we drove one and she said “it drives like a car” which was a plus and then when she saw the automatic sliding doors she said “well **** let’s just get it”

Do you ever work on it? I really am not a fan of working on anything FWD but I can be encouraged.

I had to change the alternator on my wifes AWD Sienna, and it required removing the front bumper, radiator, grille, and right front tire, and a bunch of other little shit. And I did it when I was in the midst of having super feverish rough Covid in 2022 and it was 95 degrees and humid outside. Other than that it was no issue. :rolleyes:
 
I bought a 2010 Toyota Sienna in 2011 with 36k miles on it. It has 190k miles on it now. I haven’t done anything to it other than routine maintenance. It has been my DD since 2011. Minivans are hard to beat for a family ride. The dual sliding rear doors are awesome and the cargo capacity and flexibility with the seats is much greater than that of a typical SUV.


The 2021+ models are a hybrid and get 36 mpg.
 
They're badass vehicles that will last a long long time if cared for. I see clean first gens driving every single day. How many early 2000s Expeditions, Durangos, etc. do you see anymore that aren't just clapped out at the flea market or being hauled in a convoy to Mexico?

Got the wife a 2022 2nd gen that I fully intend on taking one day and trying to hit 500k in.
 
I got scared by the lower ball joints and timing belt on the first gen. Anti minivan continues :D

Found a super low mileage 2014 platinum to sit our butts in for a while. Only gripe is apparently the “super white” paint color chips from factory. The dealership will touch it up. After that I want to get it ceramic coated.

My wife has driven a 2008 limited RWD since 2010 and LOVES it. It currently has 270000 with no sign of slowing down. There is a heat exchanger in the 5.7 that tends to leak coolant and the cam towers leak oil after a while, but otherwise that thing is a champ.

There was a recall on the super white on cars and suvs Toyota will repaint the entire vehicle...unless the dealeship or PO collected the check and didnt paint.
Pisses me off because the sequoia and the tundra are built in same plant and painted in same booth, but the trucks arent covered...because of the wording of the class action suit

Good to know. I am very close to the supposed 10 year age limit so I need to get on it!
