All went well on saturday while I went and picked her up amidst all the fun everyone was having in Kentucky!

Here are a few shots of loading her up:

Had some 2wd 4th Gen T4R rims that I put on the back so I had good rubber for the tow home. Once home mounted them on the rusty chrome rims that came on the truck so I had 4 good tires that held air while this buildup ensues.

Students helping out:

yes I know, didn't realize till we were putting the newly mounted tires back on they didn't use jack stands. Stuff like that, safety issues that is, really bothers me and I always try and use it as a teaching opportunity.


One of my first year students getting the bumper mounts off since I won't need them anymore:

Gonna concentrate on systematically taking the engine out and labeling and bagging everything to see where I stand on the condition of the engine.

yeah, some kids are still old school. they jumped right into it and by the time i got over there they were knee deep. you can tell they are young and not afraid to bend over! me=bad back lol.......

hardly knew it was back there. I was able to safely drive 65mph on I-40 with it.

What are the plans for the truck? Is it an offroad build up?


I saw where another school had built a rockcrawler tj, with help and donations from a few sponsors, they were able to build a formidable comp crawler. They got a pro driver and competed in some races. Then , I think they auctioned it off or something like that.

Any way, this is cool, keep us updated.

That is a nice looking truck, the cab seems to be in suprisingly good shape.

Better make sure they are all up-to-date on the Tetnus shots for the frame though

funny, I went to my principal, went over what skills NC DPI says students in my Ag. Tech I and II classes must master, showed him an opportunity funded by me, that I could ignite some interest because of the type of students I have and he was two thumbs up. He has been in my shop more in the last week than all school year. Deep down he is a wrench head himself.
Plans for a bed: tube bed. Where I get to tie my curriculumn into my truck. We have ALOT of welding that my students must do, by my level two students have to do some pipe fitting, prepping, etc. An optional skill to teach has always been tubing bending and notching, I have a way to work this into the curriculum. I am going to purchase a Pro-Tools 105HD with the air/hydraulic setup and donate it to the school since I will have a personal benefit with the outcome of the project. The goal is to make a streetable beach buggy (I live in wilmington), mild wheeler. Want to be able to wheel some challenging places such as tellico (if its still open by then! ) and harlan. Gonna do 63" chevys, crossover steering, tube bed, front bumper build, removable exocage around cab, lockers front and rear and some 36x12.50 BFG Mud Terrain KM2 on 15" rockcrawlers.

Well, got the motor pulled on Thursday, just getting around to posting up some pics up. Good news, broken timing chain did not result in fubar'd motor. very rebuildable upon initial inspection. Anyways on to the pics!
