Picked it up free from a guy I work with. Parked for leaking oil and smoking in engine bay. Sat for 2years. Been messing with it since March.

New parts
Battery
Alternator
Oil pressure sending unit (found the leak)
IAC
3 inch lift and 31s
And a good cleaning.

Done put over 1k miles on it. Just a few things pop up here and there from sitting for two years. Flex plate was loose. Hole in gas line. Plans are to keep it road worthy add some bumpers and a roof rack and ride it down to Hatteras n back to do some fishing.

Aight guys made it down to the beach today. Long story short I’ve put about 4K miles on the Jeep without any issues. Till today. Temp gauge has never went over 210 before even if I pull my trailer and lawn mower to go mow the MIL lawn.

Jeep was loaded down with fishing rods, cooler, luggage etc for a family of three. Nothing to extreme nothing compared to a trailer and mower.

Well about three hrs in the trip to buxton I noticed my temp gauge was creeping up higher and higher. Note I didn’t have the cooler on front rack blocking any air flow to radiator. It sat around the 220 mark and I finally made it to Napa in manteo to check it out. While sitting at the the stop light it climbed on up to 240. Mechanical fan and electric fan was both working.

I let the Jeep sit for a bit to let it cool and I took the thermostat out and threw a new gasket on to make it to buxton. It still ran around 225.

I know these temps are just guessing with the gauge on the cluster but it’s never done this before.

I’ve checked the oil doesn’t look milky or anything like a head gasket. If it was one of y’all’s what would be yalls perspective on what to do look for and do.

It’s cheap enough to just go and replace everything (water pump, hoses, thermostat, fan clutch, and radiator). I find that anything less than that is a half ass job no offense. Jury is still out on the appropriate size radiator (OEM or 3 row). It is always safe to keep that mechanical fan and make sure you have the fan shroud.

Can bet that if it sat for two years then the entire system needs flushed. Get the prestone stuff and then do an entire overhaul. Use a garden hose to flush out the heater core like a boss. Should be good as new after that :D

AW4 is a toasty transmission. While you have a radiator out I would throw in a separate transmission cooler and bypass the radiator. I ran a set up like that for years and it worked great.
