4.0 head replacement

Ok, trying to think about options here. Help me brain storm.

My daughter (somewhat mechanically inclined and eager to learn) has an ‘01 Cherokee with the shit rusty head. She called from Florida today with coolant spraying form the head about an inch to the driver side of the thermostat housing. So, she needs a head.

1. Anyone have a suggestion on a replacement head? Brand or casting or otherwise.

2. She has no money for a rental car, so anyone have thoughts on a temporary plug? I thought JB weld on a very clean surface, or maybe drill and tap a damn boot into it the hole if there’s enough meat. We’re only talking about 12-15lbs of pressure.

I hate not being around the corner from her now to help.
 
Could always try something like K-Seal, Blue Devil, or Steel Seal to slow or stop it temporarily. That would buy time for you to plan a full head replacement.
 
Shitty FaceTime video wasn’t clear and the engine was hot.

This morning she called back with clear video and a cold engine that she could get closer with the camera . The T-stat gasket blew and sprung a leak. That’s all. She can do this job by herself and is kinda excited to do it as it’s cheap and easy. 😁

Her words, I wanted an older jeep, I signed up for this shit!

Replacing a faulty thermostat was one of my first jobs on my CJ. She should have fun.
 
This is getting humorous. She’s been working on this all day, taking breaks, going to the parts store, adding an upper radiator hose to the project, calling and asking why the clamps loose. Only to follow it up with another question of “are both clamps the same size?”

They aren’t. But the fact that she thought that will make a daddy proud.😁

It’s taken all day to do a 1hr job, but she’s doing it. 🥲
