So I’ve been working with one of the wife’s sons on a 92 XJ I had picked up to flip. It’s been sitting years. We cleaned the tank last weekend and installed a new pump in it. Fuel is getting to the rail. I’m not 100% the new pump is working right since my pressure tester decided to not show any pressure at all. We pulled the rail and the injectors weren’t flowing good. So I rigged up a way to fire them while spraying parts cleaner through them. They flow more but it’s still not running. Pretty sure they are the original injectors. So clean or pull the trigger on a new set? If new any suggestions? If clean how?

I'd send them off to race city injector. I just got mine back for my ls volvo. It was running in 2 cylinders before. I'd rather rebuild and clean than buy new shitty parts. $30 each. @Jody Treadway can vouch for them as well.

Crownnvic/ v8 exploder Orange injectors are Bosch 4 hole and a worthy upgrade for whatever your junkyard charges. If it’s a 92 xj it probably has the 1 hole Siemens injectors that don’t atomize worth a damn.

Don’t waste your money getting them cleaned unless you are getting a flow matched set which usually means that a big pile of injectors is sorted based on actual flow rate

After what I've dealt with, I won't ever think I'm getting used injectors that will work from a yard. You have no idea how long they've been sitting with 10% ethanol in them. But that's just me.

So my take away is test pressure at the rail with a known good test gauge and replace with Bosch 4 hole injectors of pressure is good. Anyone got a part number on those injectors?

I bought a cheaper cleaner kit off Amazon and ran it on my kids 01XJ injectors. You could easily see the difference in the spray pattern and it made a significant difference in performance.

Very easy to do, just be easy with the injectors. I broke one removing it.

When buying injectors, get from a credible source... These days they sell cheap knockoffs that have all the PNs and packaging on amazon/ebay. Cant tell, other than price, until you get them and they dont have any numbers on the injector body, or they have crap spray pattern.

Regarding buying used injectors. Ever watch those vehicle rescue shows where dooder verifies spark and compression then finds the carb totally clogged? That's how modern fuel works inside injectors. Except the passages are TINY compared to carb passages.
If you in fact have clogged injectors, go with new or prefessionally cleaned ones IMO

So I picked up a HF gauge set up. Used it on the old Ghost to confirm it was working out of the box. Set it up on the Jeep and she was showing 30 psi on the rail when cranking. However when I pulled the injectors I apparently messed one up and fuel was leaking on the rail side. The rail was a real bitch to get off. I really can't do $400 right now on this jeep so will get new o rings and see where we are at.

Yea it made a difference. I messaged xjsavage about it he posted something on FB recently and he said he uses B12 so will give that a try when the o rings get in.
B12 is the business! All the vitamins and minerals a fuel system needs! Seent it work some wonders on cars/ trucks that have been parked up for a long time. Got a can here at the house waiting to get dumped in the ZJ when I get around to putting a tank of gas in it. Then I will run it around and let it idle through a 1/4 tank or so to get up through the system.

So being a broke cheap ass and wanting to give this a try I picked up an injector cleaning kit. Only complaint is the adapters didn’t press o to the B12 can but they did force it through the injector while it was firing them.

Yesterday after cleaning and confirming they are not leaking, replaced all the o rings. I made sure they were firing. She still would not start. I confirmed spark from coil and spark to plug and even pulled a couple plugs to confirm they were firing. I started looking at timing. The valve cover is off this motor so I can see the valves move. My old hands can't seem to get a good seal on the number one with the compressor in the way. I'm fairly certain I have it at TDC. The timing mark on the harmonic balancer is not on the timing mark on the cover. It sits at about the 4 o clock position. After a talk with my buddy Jody I think I need to make sure I'm a TDC and see what the balancer shows. Maybe the balancer spun or there is an issue with the timing chain. Not real sure what is up with this motor.

Did you measure compression?
Not yet. On the list of things to check. Obviously before I dig too deep into timing. However that timing mark not being where it's supposed to be is puzzling.

4.0 can have the balancer “spin” where the rubber isolator deteriorates between the inner and outer metal parts of the balancer. It will cause the timing marks to be off in relation to the actual internals of the motor.

Yea that is what Jody was telling me. I've never seen this. I guess I need to get another balancer and pull this one to see if it's spun. I know I need to confirm compression which I feel some when searching for TDC and check this balancer timing issue. At least that is my plan.

I had a crank no start issue with a 93 that was the result of a new cap that was faulty. I got an aftermarket dizzy from a reputable Chinese source (eBay) that fixed it
