I think I found my rear end noise.

I made a post a while.back with no responses. I made a video I believe the lunchbox locker is causing this issue. I need to to do axle seals also so it maybe time for it to leave the chat. I got new spider gears for it. Would you say this is the issue? It is a Chrysler 8.25. No spin then jerky then clang. Constant ticking sound when driving like a rock in the tire with an pop like something hitting side of body not a locker pop.

Honestly without putting a lot of thought into it, that doesn’t seem unusual for a lunchbox locker. If you hold one or both of the wheels you’ll probably observe slightly different behavior. They are weird under light load.

They are definitely not the best option but they get the job done. I had one for years in my 8.25 and it always sounded like shit. It never came apart though. Pull it out and put the open diff back in or accept that it will never really be silent :driver:

&.8 with lsd is still a cheap option too with more strength too. I’d pick one of those up before pouting money into another type of locker in an 8.25

sounds like the teeth on the locker are worn. will slip under power, sometimes pop.

I blew the teeth apart on a lokrite in an 8.25 on 35" rubber. Went to spartan and beat it for a while with no issues before I swapped in tons.

the spartan had really good road manners with 85/140 gear oil. never heard it ratchet and locked perfectly. The lockright was always a bit jerky, was due to wear.

Seems to be excessive and inconsistent ratcheting operation in the video. Lunchbox style lockers clicking constantly going down the road is unusual. Something probably worn. ECGS recommends non-synthetic Lucas 85W-140; perhaps your gear oil is old or a thinner synthetic? I'm planning to add a Torq Locker lunchbox to my 8.25 over upcoming holidays...

Yep, I have all the parts to pull and put the spider gears back in. It is time to replace the seals and get all-new brake hardware. I have a winch upfront to get me over those pesky speed bumps lol. @Buddy Holly said I would regreat putting it in and yes he was right
