Which Playstation for Gran Turismo, etc

If I were you I would consider their social construct as opposed to yours.
You remember the NES fondly because it was the cutting edge of your day...do you want them telling their kids one day their dad played etch a sketch with them?

Get them the latest gen system all their friends will have and you adapt to their world...some of my good memories were me and my son playing Call of Duty on his Xbox 360...which I thought was dumb but he thought was the coolest thing ever ...

They already have Nintendo Switches like all the cool kids. I just need a good racing game to beat them at ;) (and the racing games for the switch suck!)

Yeah .... this is valid. Had a lot of fun teaching my daughters all about treachery and sniping on the first call of duty.

We have every PlayStation except the original. The PS5 is the only one that gets any screen time. We have four controllers, kids play a lot of castle crashers, rayman legends, lovers in a dangerous spacetime, crash team racing, etc. Some single player stuff (horizon zero dawn), or the LEGO 2 players, goat game, etc. The original Xbox gets played too (Halo PvP), but not as much.

Biggest issue with anything after the PS2 is making sure the controllers are charged, updates are installed, etc. If you have a PS Plus subscription, updates install in the background. Otherwise, hit the PS button on the controller, TV turns on, receiver turns on and switches inputs, etc.

MarioKart?

MarioKart is a fun game but not what I would consider a "real" racing game. I wanna run real tracks with real cars. We bought Grid AutoSport, but it's no Gran Turismo and I have some childhood to relive!
There has been some loud hollering in the house over that game. You may not call it real racing, but there's been some hurt feelings when the blue shell comes out.

t's no Gran Turismo
GT is less a game and more of a driving sim. Drag the brakes into the corner too deep, end up in the grass. It rewards precision and hitting your marks. The kid that enjoys that is going to be somewhat rare.I mean, you get penalized for running into other cars.

exactly, which again reinforces my point. What Matt wants and what Matt's kid wants likely arent the same thing.
The qustion is which does he value more...

nah. but ill give it to ya. you just gotta find time to pick it up. haha...
or wait 11-ty months on me to ship it.

I have a PS1 and gran turismo you can have if I can find it. I think I have about ten other games, I know I have a Nascar racing game too.

Thanks @Scott86MJ you made a couple kids happy.
