The place I used to work gave me half the value of this stuff if I'd haul it to the scrap yard, it's around 45k lbs. I wanted the fanuc servos and some other parts from the laser so I pulled those but there is a shit ton of control and mtw wire and a lot of multi conductor cables... Is it worth stripping out any of that or just take it as is? There's a 20hp motor in the big grinder and a 10hp in the small one... Is it honestly worth the effort to pull them too?
I still have to go pick up all the coolant and hydraulic pumps too, so probably 8 or so more 1-3hp motors. Is it worth the hassle to remove or just leave dump it all at once

Probably taking it to gordons in icard.

All metal prices are high right now, only you can determine if your time is that valuable , but the copper will not get much more unless it’s stripped/ taken out of the motor and separated from the steel components. If that level of effort is taken you could get 4x, but without hydraulic cutting tools I wouldn’t think it’s worth it .30 vs 5.00 a pound for copper vs whole motors, steel is about $8/ 100lb

Thanks. Sounds like not worth the time. Any idea on insulated wire? I don't imagine stripping stranded 14ga is worth it

They will give it a special rate called something like irony copper, if it’s not separated, but pulling the wire is probably worth it, you can burn off the insulation, but hand stripping is usually not worth it below 2 ish gage

I strip everything bigger than 8awg.
I’ve got a strippper motor…but it still takes time to feed, peeel and separate, 10 and smaller aint worth it …even at 15,000’

Hand stripping vs using the stripper motor where would you draw the line?
How many feet we talking?

I think the stripper was $350. I’ve probably stripped….conservatively… 10,000 ft with it.

Honestly - I probably wouldn’t hand strip anything. I’m usually using labor on a slow day to strip- at a burdened average of $55/hr…hand stripping just wouldn’t return.
