Been installing a minisplit in my parents single story house this weekend and been back and forth between the attic (105-110 degrees, but 8ft+ ridge and some flooring), and the crawlspace (70 degrees, but 3-4ft clearance, fiberglass insulation hanging down, musty, everywhere you turn is a new spiderweb on your face).

I don’t like hot, but I’ll take the attic over the crawlspace all day long. The crawlspace is definitely worse, and I feel that way about most houses I’ve been in (unless it’s like a 3/12 pitch roof and you just can’t physically fit in the attic).

When I did resi service work - in the winter everything went in the attic - in the summer everything in the crawl

There's seasons when the attic ain't so bad.
There's never a time the crawlspace doesn't suck

Old house in NC (before FL 1) had crawl and attic. Then house in FL was on a slab, but I spent enough time in the attic in the summer in Florida to still say FAWK A CRAWL SPACE. At least an unencapsulated one, anyway. Those encapsulated ones look NICE!

I just made sure I did my best to plan to do everything I could in the morning in the attic.

Crawlspace. Id much rather slither around on my fat belly in the cool mustiness than sweat my arse off stepping from chord to chord. This coming from a guy that lived in a house built in the early 1900s with an 18" crawlspace. If all youre doing is pulling a little line set and a thermostat wire its an easy choice.

I feel like you didn’t understand the question ;)

The 1900's comment means we know each other in this respect. 100% agree. Trying to walk the attic with layers of old rock wool insulation and old ass rough cut pine and lathe is like Russian Roulette.
