My mom, the home-ec teacher, was either laughing or crying in heaven today. I was laughing so hard I was crying.

I decided to make myself a birthday cake like she used to. I failed. Cake layers were beautiful, until I made icing and put it all together. It looked fantastic, for a few minutes.

Then the top half split into thirds, and slid onto the counter in pieces. The second layer couldn't even stay in place.

I ended up just picking up the remnants of the top third with bare hands and gooping it all onto a second plate.

When Renee came home, she said I am no longer allowed to do anything without adult supervision.

What do yall think my home-ec grade would be?

The cake:

At least the cupcakes turned out presentable:

Redemption today. Kitchen is a disaster, though.

So I rode up to wilkesboro and got a new pair of crocs. The originals lasted 3 years before wearing a hole through the sole.

Me and my wife went antiquing Saturday. I picked up this cool fire extinguisher. It was sold by Sears and Roebuck back in the 50's for kitchen fires. It is still intact.

"For use on all types of incipient fires...."

Goes to show how the American education system has failed us when a fire extinguisher from the 50's uses a word that most Gen X, Y, Z, Alpha, Beta, etc would need Siri, Alexa, ChatGPT to define.

Had to confirm this morning for sure because I knew she was in that area, but my coworker lives a couple blocks from that trail.
It’s beautiful this time of year. This area reminds me a lot of the Asheville area, just with more gorges and more lakes. More or less the same demographic of people as Asheville too, lots of eccentric people.

I grew up with sodas being "a drink". Still "drinks" around here. My kids ask if they can have a drink and we automatically know it means a soda
This is JoCo for sure. We ALWAYS called “soda” a “drink”.
Alcoholic beverages are “likker” but could also be called a “drank”.

Like the difference between “naked” and “nekkid”. Naked is no clothes, nekkid means you’re up to something.
