Lets See a Pic of Your tow rig and trailer.

It doesn’t haul buggies but it does great for dirt bike trips!

Also it’s not squatting bad it’s just the slope of the driveway.
Is it just my eyes or are those support brackets a touch far back? Turn that thing tight enough and get off plane with the trailer and *BANG!* out they come.

What are the main observations going from a 2020 to a 2010? Pros and cons
Knobs and switches instead of everything running through the giant touchscreen was a huge push to make the swap.

2010 is the first year of the big cab which is the same as the 2020 so my kids still have the big back seat.

Pre DEF 6.7 which was really the only thing on the 2020 that ever had problems before it was deleted.

This one is a G56 truck. 2020 was an Aisin. I didn’t mind the auto but prefer the manual. Overdrive was better in the auto. The 10 is running about 10-12 mph slower at the same rpm in OD. 2k at 70mph vs 80 at 1800ish rpm. 5” straight pipe sings over 2k 🤣😂.

The 2010 isn’t quite as comfy as the 2020 but I knew that going in. 20 was a loaded Longhorn and the 10 is an SLT. I do miss the a/c seats over everything else. 20 had all the extra insulation and active noise canceling stuff so it was a good bit quieter. The 10 rides surprisingly nice for a 1 ton truck. The 20 was a factory air-ride truck so it was a bit smoother but not massively so.

Overall I’m pretty happy with the swap. I lost a bit of tow capacity but gained payload going to the older dually but I’m still good for what I usually pull.

Great assessment, thank you! Sounds like a lot of the same gripes I would have with each truck. The difference between my 2019 2500 Longhorn (68RFE, but otherwise very similar to yours) and my 2017 5500 Laramie is notable (ignoring the obvious differences between 2500 and 5500 of course), and I'm sure its even moreso going to a 2010, but I hate the giant touchscreen and how everything goes through it on the newer truck. Honestly the layout of my F450 with the large horizontal screen and a bunch of real buttons under it is optimal. I seriously considered a 2012-2018 truck when I was shopping, with 2012 being the first year of the Ramboxes on the HD trucks, and the potential of finding a manual tranny. But all the G56 trucks were overpriced, and the cabin and creature comfort improvements and rear air suspension on the 2019+ swayed me in that direction.

New to me tow rig has been getting used a good bit. Sold my 2020 3500 srw and bought this 2010 3500 drw to replace it. And ended up with a super clean 92 S10 that I’ve been using as a DD.

There is something about a dually with 17s on 35-37in tires that is just sexy af.

I feel like the 13-18 trucks hit a pretty good balance between screen functions and buttons. What cabin/comfort improvements in the 19 did you like over the older trucks? I've only been in one 19+ truck and it was a low option rental, but I did like the new style mirrors and that the blind spot mirrors were powered.

I paid a little bit more than I really was wanting too because of the g56 but I think it was worth it to not worry about transmission issues with the older truck. Rambox wasn’t even on my radar since I was looking for a flatbed. No regrets there with not having to climb over the bedsides to reach stuff now.

I added a touchscreen head unit to get CarPlay in the 10. But without everything being controlled through it, I’m not super concerned with it. The wired carplay in the 20 was definitely smoother and more polished but this was $150 on amazon and I can change the a/c temp if it dies still.

The horizontal layout in the fords is nice for sure. My wife drives a 23 Bronco and it’s got the big screen but buttons/knobs for everything. And temp displays on the hvac knobs so you don’t need the “comfort” screen to know what you are adjusting.

The 20 was leafs/bags from the factory and rode super nice empty or loaded. Self leveling too. That said, the 10 isn’t bad at all. It sits pretty tall so I’m likely going to pull the leveling spacers out of the front and ditch what I think are the factory rear blocks to drop the whole truck 2”. The bed could stand to be mounted a bit tighter to the frame rails but that’s a bigger job to do. It’s got crossmembers welded across the factory bed mounts so I’ll have to cut it off to change it.

Agreed, they just look mean like that. I’m real tempted to ditch the Alcoa’s in favor of steel wheels. I like the way black steel wheels with a lug cover look on a dually and I’d be able to actually rotate the tires instead of just swapping sides.

I do miss the power adjustable convex mirrors and the power fold stuff the 20 had but I’m sure it could be retrofitted if I cared enough.

I love black wheels on a color matched truck. A night edition delmonico red is probably one of the most gorgeous trucks IMO. But if there's any hint of something shiny or chrome anywhere else, then I want some type of chrome/aluminum wheel. I think my truck would look awesome blacked out, but it's just too much work to switch everything.

The new mirrors didn't come around until 2023, but I retrofitted onto my 19. I imagine it's possible on the older ones but the different BCM probably makes it more complicated.

Factory rear air suspension was a big deal for me, better console layout, minor evolutions on infotainment, minor but noticeable NVH improvements, etc. Other than the air suspension, none of it it's notable on its own, but the overall package evolution is good.

Does the “bed lowering” feature on the air-ride 2500 actually do anything? The 3500 would only drop about an inch if the truck was empty. “Alternate trailer ride height” was kinda useful with my big 5th wheel camper depending on road conditions and tank levels.

I remember your post about putting them on your truck. The 19 had power blind spots though right? Just the old flip up style, not the sliding style? I'm one of the few who have no problem with Ram's mirrors and leave them down unless I'm pulling one of the goosenecks, but the power blind spot would be awesome. My 15 has the factory air ride and I agree it makes the ride very good. It's our preferred family vehicle when we know parking won't be an issue lol.

It is awesome. Drops the hitch about 3.5-4" which allows me to drop the foot on my trailer jack, spin the crank handle a couple times to contact the ground, get in the truck, push the magic button and drive away. When it's time to hook up, lower the truck, back under the coupler, push the magic button, then hop out, spin the handle a couple times, and pull the release on the foot, and that part is done.

At the end of the tailgate, it lowers it about 5.5" which is enough to change from "I don't want to climb up or jump down from that" to "yeah, I can climb up pretty easy or jump down without hurting my joints".

Yes, 19 had power blind spots, power telescope, and power fold (but not power flip up/down). Going to the 2023+ mirrors I lost the power telescope, but all of my trailers are open so I rarely telescope them out anyway and you can still slide them manually.
