A portion of the settlement (how much? unknown) is due to a NYC specific law that requires delivery drivers to earn a minimum wage whether they are in service or waiting on customers.
Door dash caught a stray there, and the law was created to protect the legendary NYC cabbie organization and punish uber and lyft

There's this
"DoorDash insisted most of the settlement was not about “late or missing pay” but about the bonuses owed workers for time spent logged into the app and waiting “on call” between deliveries."

I'm guessing what they are calling a "bonus" is the differences needed to make up to the minimum hourly wage.

This isn't the only market that has that minimum wage law, its just the most expensive.

I'm hearing that a car was in the oncoming lane as the engine was coming through the curve and it swerved driver side and missed the car. It doesn't look like much of a curve, but there is a little elevation and camber change that goes on that has caught many drivers by surprise, as well as the non existent shoulder typical of roads around here.
