Harlan cleanup in Jan/feb (Feb 9-10)

It was a great weekend.

We got a lot of work done in a few spots. Thanks to everyone who gave the backhoe operators good instructions. I think they did some amazing work and newcomers will be very suprised. I have pics from this past weekend. If I knew how I would post them tomarrow after i get off work. Thanks. I think the FEB clean up date will be very important for a few other trails. Thanks to everyone who brought food/drinks/napkins/chainsaws/clippers etc etc. Thats how trail work gets done. Have a good night. I hope everyone had a safe trip home.

Had an awesome time guys. Look forward to doing it again. Greg, thanks alot man. I owe ya one.

And everyone needs to be aware that Dave should NOT be around gas and fire at the same time.

I'll be there for Feb.. I hope to have my camper semi-usable... Look for it behind the Dairy Hut.. If not I'll be tenting w/ an elec. heater :)

No pics :( Too busy working :) There was an extremely good turnout for the workday, thanks to all the NC4x4'ers that showed up to help! I worked the Upper Rock Garden with TiredIronGRB, 35xj, farmboy, StretchASU and got-4-lo + many others. We had about 20 working at one time and were able to open up the whole upper section, probably 3-4 times longer than it was. I cut so many trees I lost count, several good sized ones too, and the section is much more open, accessible and challenging. On my way back down I stopped to check out progress on Jagger and Lower Rock Garden. Major progress was made there as well. Jagger now has an easier line, if you can call it that, plus more options and ties directly in to the Lower Garden which was extended all the way straight up through the valley to meet the road adding about twice as much length to it. There was also a work crew at the Middle Rock Garden and I can only assume they made similar progress. These and upcomming workdays will really add a lot to an already SUPER 4x4 park! A big thanks to all who provide everything from the land to the labor for a great place to experience our sport!

Just a note about CYJKrawler, He left Wednesday, went to Mnt City Callallentee, worked on easy out, worked on a easierout(yeah right!) and then up to the yellow/red trail Garden, now dubbed as TOW (Top of the World)
He left Mnt City went to Harland, worked all Saturday, then drove back to Mnt City to Ride Sunday.

Mr. Iron Man!

Craven, based on what you have seen and worked on at Harlan, would there be any benefit to bringing my small crane setup for the front of my jeep, to help with lifting/moving trees and stuff ?

I don't know. Maybe TiredIron will chime in here but if they have the equipment for the Feb workday that they had this weekend they should have what they need in that department. They had a front end loader/backhoe machine that was a huge help on all the projects. Did good at pulling rocks down off the hillside on the URG but placement of them was tideous. With your crane you could maybe pick up and place rocks where ever you wanted them but those suckers are HEAVY! If you want to work on the new section closer to Lion's Den just a chainsaw and manpower might be the most beneficial.

We got really lucky to get the backhoe..

the dozer is easier to get and I hope to be able to get that again for the feb. weekend. I would love to be able to get an trackhoe with a thumb on the bucket one time to use in the middle rock garden. Anyone have one?

Any suggestions to what to work on in Feb.
1) grace trail is first in line.

i think i remember seeing a few other things right around lions den?

forgot to mention that we made some good additions to the middle rock garden area.

we extended bruiser. It goes all the way to the main road into middle rock garden.

Also on your way to grapevine their is a left turn that goes to two other lines that we opened up. These are more mild right now but will work in nicely.
Also we made the road alot wider leading into the middle rock garden. two should be able to pass most of the way.

nobody else got any pics?

I will post my pics ASAP. I wish I had taken more.

Thanks to everyone who helped work and make the park better. I know most people left or only rode trails sunday morning in the rain. I Continued to work on sunday and do something that I think goes under the radar but is VIP. I used my awesome Clippers from Lowes to trim back those branches and limbs that hang out into the trail and hit you in the face or poke you in the eye on the trails. I think if everyone did this a little bit when your working in feb it will make a huge difference. I would hate to see anyone loose and eye over a stupid little branch. It almost happened to a jeeper this sunday so it made me think about it some more. It was fun moving rocks and making room for spectators and parking. Now people who watch will not stop up and block the entire trail. Great idea. Big thanks to George and Shoope. Thanks a lot guys.
