I finally broke down and put the herculiner on the sides of the jeep. I was worried that it might be too thin and look inconsistent, but I am very happy with the results. Here's a few pics:

looks good. for some reason it reminds me of the 80s FJ wagons.

Does that nake it hard to wash? E.g. dirt/dust wants to kind of stick to it?
I know, I know, "wash" is kind of defeating the point...

Thanks for the compliments. As far as being hard to wash, I don't know yet. These pics were taken yesterday and I had just finished applying it the night before, so I havent gotten it dirty yet. I'm sure it will take a little more scrubbing than the painted surfaces to get the mud off, but I doubt I'll be too worried about that. As far as the 'birds, they are probably going to stay til they are worn out for budget reasons. I bought them off ebay barely used for $400 just to get the jeep lifted and on the road. Once these are worn out then I'm leaning towards some Interco LTB's for the next round. The lift is made up of Rusty's 4.5in coils up front and a RE 2in aal and and a 2in shackle in the rear. I have Rough Country nitro shocks on all 4 corners, no sway bars, and I modified the doors to pull right off like a wrangler. I have built a roof rack for it that I have not installed yet, and I have bought the steel to make bumpers but havent started them yet. After the bumpers are made then I'd like to throw some gears and a rear locker at it.

OK, I'll be honest, I don't like it. Paint a star and SHP on the door, it might look OK :flipoff2:

I herc'd my old pickup truck. It faded in the sunlight pretty quickly. You could see the contrast where it didnt fade under my toolbox. It also collected and held dust, and it never cleaned to a gloss black, no matter how hard I scrubbed. Mine also peeled in high use spots, it scraped off, maybe soem fault was with the installer (me:huggy:) not cleaning it well. I swapped it with a scotch bright and xylene a few times beforehand.
To each his own, if you like it rock on. I do like the black grill on white XJ. I have a white Classic with white grill; I think I'll spraybomb my grill black

Ok, totaly off topic but why do people block their plate when postings pics on here, I've never understood it. Paranoia?
It's kinda like your SS#. People can get a lot of info on you just from your plate.

As far as blocking the tag goes, I'm not a criminal so I have no ideo why people do that? Maybe they could find your address and come steal the car if they liked it, I don't know. I've just seen others do it, so I figured there must be some risk.I was considering having it sprayed in at a shop but decided to go with the herculiner because I could easily touch it up myself cheaply when it starts looking rough. I also don't care if it ever shines again after I get it dirty the first time, the only reason the wheels are shiny is because they've not been offoad :D :D . I hope it will stay on, I took my DA to it with 320 grit, then went over that with coarse scotchbrite, then cleaned it with the xylol and let that dry completely. The first coat was a little thin and you could see the white in between the clumps of media. I layed the 2nd coat on THICK and it covered very well. I really can't think of anywhere that will be a "high wear" area, except for maybe just under the doors.
I also considered siping the birds, but I just don't feel like putting the extra work into an all terrain tire to try to make it a decent mud tire. I'll run them until I have the money for something more aggressive, and at that time I'll either sell them or keep the two best ones for spares if they are too worn to sell.

BTW, one of my friends also thought is looked like a police vehicle :)
