I have a set of 38 TSL's that I would like to cut the tread for extra cleaning and grippage. I guess it's the thing to do. I have not done it before and would appreciate any pics and advise that would help me from screwing up the tires. Where is the best place to get a tire cutter and what size is best ? Thanks for the help.

I may try some of these methods to do my other two. The groover is VERY time consuming.

 I know it didn't take me 30 mins per tire to do 1 cut per lug on my old 38's. Quit huffing gas while you're doing it and it'll go alot quicker:flipoff2:

i used a angle grinder held sideways to cut (burn? melt?) my tsl's. only takes 1 hour per tire, is cheap, and is gauranteed to look like crap.

Yeah, did that.....ONCE. Backdoor neighbor came over, thought the house was on fire :) If you go this route be sure the area is well ventilated!

Appreciate the pic. Did it make a big difference ? How about on wet and muddy rocks ? Which tip did you use on the groover ? could you also post a pic of a closeup straight into the tire. Thanks again

I cut my SX's similar to the above picture with the the addition of some grooves on the outers lugs as well.

The difference in traction between cut and uncut was definitely noticeable.

I feel like it was a worthwhile mod. I used a #4 head for the groover. I'll try to get a pic tomorrow.

Jesster, any chance you could post a pic of those cut sx's. Heard it's a great tire. Probably go with a set of those when my TSL's are done.
I grooved more out of the rear tires than the front. As far as the SX's go, I have beat the crap out of them with no regard for their well being and they are still holding up just fine. I have chunked the outer lugs quite a bit, but the rocks around here are not friendly to tire spinning and smokey burnouts. :driver:
Here are the only pics that I have handy at the moment...

Grooving and cutting are VERY diffrent. My pics are cutting, and the others are grooving. Both are great depending on where you wheel!

That cutting looks a little extreme for me. I think I will try the grooving method first and see how that works. Thanks for the pic. How long did it take to cut them and what did you use ?
What kind of wheeling are you doing with those tires ?
