Doors off?

ok i've been trying to take the doors off on my YJ. the pins are completely rusted and i've tried the wd40 idea and pulled as hard as i could. nothing. i can't tell if there is some sort of washer or nut or something on the end b/c whatever it is, is stuck up in the shaft around the pin. looks like part of the pin itself, but i don't know. any ideas? i'll try and get a couple pics when i get home.

After you spray it it, open the door, and almost shut the door, keep swinging it it back and forth with some upward presure. Should come off.
 
i had that problem with my yj i used this stuff called deep creep sea foam its made by the same company that make PB blaster. spray that on there and do like what chip said swing the door back and forth with some upward presure it should slide right out.
 
My passenger side door on my TJ sticks all the time. I just open it and wail away with a rubber mallet till it comes off :beer:
 
if its not a show queen, use your high lift jack under the doors when they'r open just a little. should pop them right off. (or lift the tires off the ground- ha!) if it is a show jeep, you might not know what a high lift is. sorry, couldent resist that wisecrack. everything everyone else says makes sense, too.
 
don't forget that if you use the high-jack method to put it as close to the front of the doors (pin side) as possible. there is a nut on the end of the top pin from the factory that most people take off and never replace but you never know.
 
well last week i tried a little bit every day to see if they would come off. nothing. finally last night i was just cleaning out the jeep and decided to give one more tug. driver door came off like it was nothing! :bounce2:passenger side gave me more trouble. had my wife tap the pin with a hammer while i lifted. it finally came off. cleaned the pins up and sprayed wd40 in the holes. gonna get some grease or something to make them slide easier. but at least i got them off!! now i just gotta get used to driving with no side mirrors :driver:
 
I had the same problem on my TJ (came from NY) and used a dremel sanding bit and actually shaved the rust off and the pins down a little to make it easier:Rockon: for next time.
 
Congrats on getting them off. One thing to watch out for now tho.
The hinge has a lining that is made of lead (or a similar soft metal), at least on the YJ. The slightest mis-alignment - say squishing it with the door pin a bit as you reinstall the doors, will cause them to be a real pain in the arse to remove later.
I've thought about removing this material, but I suspect the pin would then slop in the hinge, possibly making for alignment issues with the door latch.
Just be careful to inspect before reinstalling (not always the first thought when a big rain storm is coming up, or late getting back from a night out, etc.) and you should be fine.
I also use a marine grade rust preventer/lubricant called Fluid Film on the hinges (and the hi-lift, leaf springs - hell everything since I've got rust everywhere). It's hard to find, stinks, foams up on rust, and generally leaves a mess, but is solvent-free and seems to last longer than any other product I've used. (no, I'm not a company spokesman)

I think NC law requires two rear facing mirrors.
So you mgiht wanna put at least one on.
You can go to AA/AZ/whatever and get a cheap mirror and rig up a bolt through the end of it, and a nut on the bottom to hold it in place, and you'll be fine.
I did that, but managed to lose the ((*@$(*$@(*$@ mirror somewhere. So now I need to go buy another mirror.
Oh well.
Stupid is pricey sometimes.
