BWI's, anybody ever got one?

i hate to admit it, but i got one this evening. it was a sting operation setup at the wildlife ramp. i know i deserve what i got commin to me, but i was wonderin if anyone knows what kinda fines and stuff im lookin at. any advice is welcome.
 
AFAIK, BWIs carry the same penalties as a DWI. I've been boarded several times by the CG and DNR at Lake Wylie, but I don't drink on the boat. My passengers had beverages with them, but it was a non-issue since they weren't driving. Open container apparently doesn't apply on a boat.
 
the wildlife officer said it wouldnt have anything to do with my insurance or anything like that, he said it would just be a fine. i dont know how true that is though
 
usually wild life stuff is totally separate from normal police business.

IE an Underage Drinking ticket would NOT go on a criminal record as a misdemeanor if a Wild Life officer caught you, it would simply be a fine (a pretty big one I believe.)

My guess is a BWI is the same situation, probably a pretty hefty fine.
 
well he was real nice and he said it would be between $200 and $500 fine, according to what the judge says, and my prior record (which i dont have one) i did wrong and im not pissed at the wildlife or anything like that, i was just wonderin if anyone else has went through this before and if what they are telling me is true. if it is true i dont think ima get a lawyer. they did say it was a criminal offence, i guess it will be on my record, idk?
 
My buddy got one last 4th. Get a lawyer at least. They said he could have lost his liscense but he paid a 500 fine and the lawyer got him off. Im sure prior record has a lot to do but you could still get stuck with it without the lawyer. Good luck
 
So you got one coming in off the lake.. I hope you weren't about to tow that boat home..
 
no, my buddy was pullin it with his jeep. btw the boat is for sale (not because of this), i might post it up in the for sales on here
 
:rolleyes: I'm not sure how much I agree with bwi's or boat ramp "sting" operations. Pretty lame altogether. The same argument for DUI's doesn't apply.

:shaking: Pretty lame...its the same thing as a DUI Checkpoint in any town. Im glad that the wildlife officers are doing their job by protecting others on the lake. There are way more unknowns out on the lake than on the road for one and I sure as hell dont want a person that has been drinking behind the wheel of a boat. Wakeboarders, tubers, waterskiiers etc can all be floating in the lake and are targets if you dont keep an eye out for them.
 
I don't agree with dui checkpoints either, so I guess that works. NC has no boating license or safety course requirement. The lake(s) aren't state owned. There are always retards without a clue driving around at top speed on jet ski's, bassboats, etc while sober. I don't agree with drunk driving anything, but where did I sign anything saying that just because it's a boat means that random stops and searches are alright? This is still the US and we do still have (some) rights.
 
Yeah when my buddy got his last 4th we were just cruising the pontoon back to the marina and they passed us and stopped us for no reason. He blew a .09 on site and they took him to jail, It was a bit ridiculous. But like i said he got it dropped for a hefty fine.
 
It's a class 2 misdemeanor with a maximum fine of $1000. It does not affect your driver's license. I bet you wish you could turn back time.
