Lift and tires

Working on getting a lift and tires with rims for my 2002 jeep grand cherokee. Everything is stock I know I need a 5lug rim as for tires and lift im not sure. Sugestions on tires and lift would be awesome so im not going into this blind. thanks much

How about some more info on your plans? You building this to do some easy trail riding, going hardcore, or somewhere in between? Have a budget? Is the WJ your daily driver or trail only?
 
Its only gonna see local trails. So in between hardcore and easy. I am a big fisher and hunter so it will go to use to get me to my secret spots :driver: It needs to be a DD/ Weekend get away. Budget is around $1000 although i wanna shoot below that. So let me know what you think. thanks
 
I am only looking for Rims Tires and Lift kit. Someone is selling all of these for 800 in the parts for sale threads but it will not fit my WJ. Also anyone know if there is a conversion kit for a 8lug rim to a 5lug
 
For your wj im thinking the cheapest lift other than a budget boost would be around 700-800 new. and not too many people are selling wj lifts, so it will be hard to find used. you might get lucky and find a set of used tires and wheels for about 3-400, but they might not have a whole lot of tread. if you can pull it off with 1000 i want you to do my grocery shopping.

But, if you are ok with a budget boost (2 inch coil spacers) then you could get it for $100-200 + the cost of the tires/wheels. For trail riding a budget boost would probably do ok. You could probably just fit 31's with a budget boost. Hope this helps
 
Id rather not do a budget boost if its that much ill just settle for tires now. Any idea on what kinda tires would fit a stock WJ? Really need some help peeps
 
We're running LT245/75R16 (just under 31") on our 99 WJ. Anything bigger won't fit without a lift. Our tires are Yokohama Geolander A/T-S http://www.yokohamatire.com/tires/geolandar_ats.aspx They're plenty gummy to hold the road well & ride ok for an E-rated tire. The tread flexes really well for light off-roading, and should do about the same as BFG AT's at the same air pressure. The wear has been really good. They tow well, too -- 5500Lb camper; 4000Lb combo of trailer & '54 CJ3B without any feeling of wander or a need to worry. I've been happy in all kinds of bad weather with these, too.
 
Ok budjet boost for now since im not gonna see any real trails for a while. With a 2.5" to 3" budget boost what size tire can I fit 31-33"? Thanks alot ill post some pics wants its done. should be by this weekend if I can find the stuff in parts for sale.
 
The 2.5" BB is the biggest budget boost available. I'd stick with some 31's (265/70/R16 or 245/75/R16). The 265's will be about an inch wider and look better IMO.
 
IMHO look into the Iron Rock Offroad kit. Get it, set it aside until you save up for your wheels/tires, then do the assembly. Doing a BB just to look kwel, but possibly having bad road/offroad manners, isn't worth it. Just a thought.

A budget boost doesn't have bad on or offroad manners, It'll ride same as stock. I ran spacers for 20k miles, and never had anyprobs. WJ's are a good platform for a family wheeler/DD

I agree, you will be spending money on a part that you will take off and then have to try and sell it for a used price(wasted money) IMO. If you are installing it yourself and using the stock wheels you won't be far over $1000 at all.
 
For $1000 a BB is probably your best bet if you want some decent tires and wheels. I got some Crager Soft 8s for really cheap, like under 50 a wheel if I remember correctly. Then as far as tires, 31" is a good bet, and do you want M/Ts or A/Ts? If A/T's then you can't go wrong with BFG. A few years ago I had a set of Bridgestone Dueller A/T's and they were horrible, so I don't recommend them. If M/T's are what you are looking for, I now have the Trxus M/Ts and they are a great tradeoff between off road and on road capabilities.
