Hey, i'm new to the forum and wheelin as well. I was curious... I'm getting ready to cut off my rear bumper (person i bought it from welded the posts to the frame.) and I was wondering if there were any NC state laws that prohibit the lack of a rear bumper.

I've searched this forum and found a thread concerning ride height (no more than 6 inches after mods...) but couldn't find anything in there about bumpers.

Well thanks up front for the help.

as far as i know you dont...cause i dont got one either haha

Depends on how big of a dick the cop is and if he needs an excuse to pull you over. Im pretty sure it wouldnt pass inspection.

My van was rearended and driven without a rear bumper for several years. Actually made it easier to slide big rolls of carpet out. I was pulled over a couple times after that but noone ever said anything about the missing bumper. I was always able to get it inspected too.

Some 80s Toyota trucks shipped form teh factory without a bumper.
You'll be fine.

keep in mind, though, bumpers are there for a reason.
If yo uwere to get rear-ended by some fool, what would they hit/damage? I wouldn't want to be taking that hit to my frame or body.

i get my truck inspected everytime..

then again..im the one inspecting it

from what i understand, insurance companies could be dicks to you if you are rear ended and don't have the proper damage proofing on your vehicle...

People have been running roll pans and shaving there bumpers for years. 2x on the insuarnce claims. I've seen them pay out less because of no bumpers.

For a DD I wouldn't suggest it just cause of the other idiots on the road that can't drive. I've been rear ended a number of times in my Chevy 1500. One was from another Chevy 1500 that hit me going 45mph. He didn't even tap the brakes. All it did was push me down the road and moved the passenger side in about 1/4"(slid it forward in the slotted holes). I also have a pretty beef rear bumper along with a Reese hitch underneath. From a legal point it is not illegal and it will pass inspection as long as the license plate is there and visible with a working license plate light.

with a working license plate light.

This is one thing that has gotten many people pulled over, don't forget that stupid little light or the first time you go driving at night... all you will see is blue lights in your rear view mirror...

I made that mistake on my old Mazda lowrider. Shaved the tailgate and taillights and frenched in the plate and some led's and forgot to put the license plate light in there. Made it about a month before I got pulled though.

wow, thanks for the input... i got a lot more replys than i thought i would!

I didn't even think about someone rear ending me for some reason. hah, wishful thinking i guess. I just found a junk toyota with a chrome tube bumper that im going to opt for. Again, I appreciate it!

as for new, i'm only techically new. I've been lurking this forum since may or sometime like that... haha i hope to continue learning from you guys, as i have already learned books worth.
