anyone running shorty headers on a 5.3 ls and did they make a difference? if so what brand did you get?

Shorty headers will make little to no difference on the GenIII Chevy's, especially truck motors, the factory manifolds flow surprisingly well making shortys not worth the trouble. Longtubes do make a considerable difference on them though.

I'm a huge fan of Thorley Tri-Ys! They have a quite nice torque gain and the extra HP aint bad either!

Have you opened up the rest of the exhaust as well?

Long tubes are always better than the shorties for power, but the previous owner of my T/A did have to re-tune when he did the shorties, so it had to have made a difference.

I've installed the Arizona Speed Marine long tubes. They were a bit pricey at around $800 but the power gains were noticeable once we finished the exhaust. Thorley does make a very nice product also but the power gains are not equal. If you are interested in Thorleys PM me.

just a gibson exhaust thats bout all i got on it, just didnt know what anyones opinion was. id love long tubes but man they can get expensive!

Excellent option, best low down torque headers available. Any 4-2-1 header (like tri-y's) will be better for torque than a 4-1 header.
