Hello Hello,
Glad to see you are interested. I am a Sgt in the great USMC right now, Re-enlisted last year.
As for the one comment...... Combat training itself is probably very similar between the branches. There is not much difference between pulling one trigger over another. The other training is certainly much different.
If the Army doesnt want to admit it, that's there issue. If all the training was the same, there wouldn't be 2 different branches.
As for the Afghanistan comment. That was a flat out lie, and stupid as hell.
You will not be deployed for 2 years. The longest Marine Corps deployment I know of is 13 months, but then that is only 1 time every for years. For MOST units, its 7 months spent overseas.
The Marine Corps has grown its size in order to provide troops with a 2:1 ratio. If you deploy for 7 months, they want you home for 14 months before you can deploy again.
If that sounds bad, come join my unit, it is 7 months deployed, 5 months home, from 2003 until now. Thanks to the increase in size, that shouldn't be the case anymore starting next year.
There are many assholes in the Marine Corps. No matter where you work, there will be an asshole. So dont let that run you off.
Marines are arrogant. They feel they are better than every other branch. That argument will never end. I have had multiple Army/Navy/Air Force cats come up to me and tell me that they think I am better than them for being a Marine. Who cares though? Some people thing Texans are cool and New Yorkers are assholes. Its all an opinion. Everybody has one.
Just like the other guy above, who just picked up Cpl, I can answer any questions you may have. All you gotta do is ask. I will give you 100% honest answers, and even tell you where another branch may be better.
For example, the Air Force gets special pay for poor living conditions. (All Marine Corps living spaces are poor to A. F. standards).
Just Let me know.

... please tell me what is so different about combat training from USMC to army since you know so much about it... CHERRY!
. there is no research to be done. infantry is infantry. look at it like this... theres this school in the army called ranger school. infantry from both army and marines as well as other branches of the military to include navy and airforce that are SPEC OPS attend. it is a school for basic infantry operations. so if anywhere, the army would be the branch who teaches these tasks. i think you should do a little more research before you get all bias about the USMC. like i said... its the same training.

less of the marines. In the korean war, the marines wore yellow leggings, until the chinese superiors ordered their troops not to engage "the yellowlegged soldiers" The Marines had to take them off so they could fight because the chinese refused to fight the marines. You may not see a difference, but the rest of the world does.
