NC Sales Tax ==> up 1% in Sept; 1.25% Oct

wow...i hope they never get around to taxing labor. i'm in copier repair, here lately customers are borderline about getting their copiers fixed because of the money, at $90 an hour for service, taxes would climb quick and add quite a bit to the bill.

i assume it's the same way for home repair/appliance services.

wow...whats that going to do to the cost of building a home?

I live a whopping 15mins from SC. Where do you think I'm going to do my major shopping with a 2% difference?

Not to be political- but, that woman is going to be the most hated political person this state has seen in some time.:fuck-you:

Delaware has no sales tax... and is only about 30 min away. A lot of folks in thsi area drive up there just to go shopping.
Their vehicle taxes/registration are a lot more reasonable too.

Amen....we've been selling parts at cost and charging more on the labor rate (non taxable) for quite a long time. Our customers have no problem with it when we explain it to them, most are happy to help us keep more $$$ in our pocket. If the elected officials are going to outright cheat on there taxes, I'm going to do everything in my power (legally) to not pay their ass.

Just an update, on 10/1/09 there is a 1/4% rate adjustment that ends up offsetting the other part... NC DOR has not bothered to put this up on their website yet, but they swear the forms will reflect all of this.

So in theory that means instead of going to 8%, it will stay at the 7.75% but more will be going to state and less to the county. (5.75% to NC and 2% to Guilford in my case, whereas right now, 9/1, they are 5.5% to NC and 2.25% to Guilford)

Confused yet... hire a CPA! :)

Thanks!

It appears that the increase will be 1%, 7.75% for 91 of the 100 counties including where my shop is, 8% in Alexander, Catawba, Cumberland, Haywood, Martin, Pitt, Sampson, and Surry, and 8.25% in Mecklenburg which is where I live......boooo
This "temporary" increase will last until July 1, 2011.
It also says something about Contractors buying building supplies will not have to pay the additional 1% sales and use tax which is pretty good for them.
These are all state increases, I don't know if the counties are planning on raising any.....I hope not.

Instead they get you coming and going down I-95...and their roads suck just as bad as the rest of them.
