I am tossing around the idea of getting a toolbox for my MJ. There is just no room in the cab for anything if someone is ridding shotgun. If I do get one, it must be black, aluminum, and low profile or really even just a chest. I really despise the way toolboxes look especially on mini/midsize trucks. It would be handy for hauling things I want to keep dry. So what are some good brands that make a quality unit that doesnt break the bank? I have actually never had one through all the trucks I have owned...haha. I like the cam-lock style my buddy has but dont know the name. I think right now I am mainly leaning towards a chest that cant be seen above the bed at all.
thanks for any input! -J

Out of all the boxes I have had, Adrian Steel was the best all around by far. Unfortunately I don't think they have a black line, and their designs are no frills-industrial type boxes. I don't know about nowadays, but I know at one point Weatherguard were so of the better boxes too!

I have a UWS brand box just like you described on my Taco. It's decent, but it was around $340...I think. I hardly use it, and it hasn't been on my truck in a few months. I might get around to putting it back in there again one of these days.

Had a UWS tool chest on my old truck, got it used and never had any problems. All the welds were still good, struts still worked, it locked and unlocked fine, even after I rolled the truck and threw it across 64hwy. I bought a new tool box for my crew cab because I didnt want a chest for it, and like was said, it wasnt exactly cheap. The only thing I didnt like was drilling more than the reqired mounting holes (two for my particular box) voided the warraty.

UWS may probably be the best price, Adrian is geared toward commercial, and $$$$ but very good stuff.

As for mounting, if it's sitting on the bed rail, no more than one bolt per side, as the flexing of the bed box will rip the tool box apart ( and void warranty ) if more are used. ( also rips the bolt holes in the bed rail over time )

Many boxes use threaded 'J' hooks one per side to mount to allow for bed flex.

I need to find a trailer tongue box cheap too....

As do I.......hollar if you find a deal. Harbour Freight sometimes has some on sale, but not lately.

I figureed $200ish for a decent one, ( Norther has a short box for $250 ), just want to look around a bit see if something else is out there cheaper. cheap isn't always good, good isn't cheap...blah blah blah....

NOTHING is theft proof, but why make it easy ?

I can see that voiding the warranty, and understand it. But I mounted my CB antenna and some lights to my box, therefor voiding the warranty. To me that sucks, not that I think Ill ever need it, but still.

i got one for sale its out of my f150 im letting it go for a decent price pm me if intrested p

The UWS boxes are all right... but their blue label boxes are no nicer than anybody else's cheap box. Keep an eye on Northern or TSC for a deal. Or look to Weatherguard, Cam-Locker, or other brands for a quality box.
