What is the rule on winshield cracks for NC inspection? I'm getting my truck inspected soon and want to know what to expect.
Thanks for the advise

I was told by many inspectors over the years...as long as the field of view isnt obstructed, its OK. This was because my Dakota had a crack all the way across, but it was only about 8" from the bottom. I never fixed it, it always passed.

I've also heard (but never expereinced) the inspector might fail it if they can catch their fingernail on the crack, the logic being it will tear up the windshiled wiper.

My XJ has had a large and increasingly propagating crack right in front of the drivers view for about 6 years now, and I've never had a problem getting it inspected.

Not to hijack, but where would ya'll get a vehicle that is more than 6" over factory height and nearly 8' tall (bigger than most shops can get in their door) inspected? It's a '96 so it has to have OBD II done but should pass that fine.

I've never known an inspection station to care about the vehicles ride height. It may be an NC law, but I've never seen or heard of an instance where it was enforced.

the 6" over factory height is not a problem if it is a truck, or has a transfer case....

I believe Maddoog is asking because the truck wont fit in a normal size garage door so that they can pull it in and hook up to the computer, not because of ride height laws. I believe some shops can roll the computer outside, I've seen one that was on a cart.
