Mother of 15 dissapointed in help offered

... In theory, drug testing welfare recipients is a great idea - but not really feasible when you look at the cost & time involved. Rowan County alone has over 46% of households on some form assistance & the guidelines are set to increase this year for Food & Nutrition Services (foodstamps).

How would it not be feasible? It would probably save the system so much money that it would pay for itself many times over. Plus more jobs would be created for the testing companies. Maybe some of the ex-welfare recipients could take those jobs.

B/c we are talking literally, what, thousands of thousands of drug tests in every county? And how often? Every month? Lietrally millions done in NC over the course of a year.
1st poblem - The shear manpower in not only administering (getting) them but also in processing that is outrageous. Sure, eventually companies will emerge, but what happens during teh flux time, and what happens to those companies as the demand decreases?
2nd problem - thsi is actually bigger - there is a thing called "false positives". The test companies don't like to talk about this, but it happens. Lets say there is a .01% incorrect rate, 1 in 10,000 tests come out positive when it isn't.
That means over the course of a year, lets say a million+ tests in NC alone, hundreds of people will be falsely accused and lose their coverage and be labeled a druggie.
Plus lots of everyday meds cause positive results

Your chances of falsely "failing" a drug test ar waaay better than playing the lottery.

While I def think it's a great idea, it's completely impractical.
A good start would be to remove welfare benefits when convicted of a crime, including drug posession.

Ding Ding Ding Ding, we have a winner! A zero tolerance policy at that, you plead no contest, you lose welfare benefits. If your underage child is convicted, you lose benefits.

Corporate America seems to have the resources to test new employees so saying that money and manpower is a limiting factor is BS. The savings from cancelled support from people testing positive would more than likely pay for its self very quickly. False-positives could and should be retested just like in the private world.

Do the math. Corproate America isn't doing 10,000+ in NC per month. Do you see that many people getting new jobs? Niether do I. It's more like hundreds.

plus, it's widely known that the tests done for new employees are the least reliable and easiest to beat (b/c they are the cheapest, fastest turnaround).

Problem w/ re-tests is time.
You fail once. Gues what, that takes a few days to a week to find out. You then appeal (which could take days to months). By the time you take teh2nd one, how long has it been? Of course you've been keeping clean THEN...
The only reliable way to do the testing is to take multple samples at once and test at diferent labs. Which doubles your cost.

She's a money-grubbing cum dumpster. She was getting $2600 a month for doing nothing more than being a leach. For reference that's almost $1000 more than I bring home a month, and I work a minimum of 45 hours a week. She's unapprectiative and disrespectful. It's time we as a (hard working) country put a stop to this. It just isn't right for the working class to stuggle and have the stress that comes with being a contributor to society to have to witness this blasphemous bitch doing the only thing she does best. Flame away libs...
