The re-birth of Callalantee

I also talked with neeta today when we left she is very open to suggestions as they have never done this before i threw out the idea to her about a yearly pass like harlen and brimstone areas have in the price range of 35-65 dollars she seemed very interested and said she was going to talk and or go to a few parks to get ideas she also wants to stock small parts and oil and things like that so you dont have to go to town i know the price increase may shock some at first it did me it cost me and the wife 80 bucks to camp and ride 2 days where as ronnie only charged 30 and paul never saw any of it but that is why we are facing this now BUT i feel that it is only a shock now because not much has been done YET but once the changes are made and WE get word out i think the place will take off and be a much safer and enjoyable place for all she also said that mtn cty was in talks about a new law that would allow atvs to ride into town but for now i guess we will have to wait and see. just my opinion thanks

If she needs contact info for Chris at Crozet shoot me a pm. I'll put her in touch. I'll also be riding there in a month or so if she wants to see the park.

Been off the board for few weeks.
Just read the other long ass thread.
Not surprised.
Honestly the fees are not that high compared to lets say a weekend at the beach or as stated earlier movie tickets for 4 people Or other private parks in TN or hell even the yacht club in Florida (mud).

I'm in the camp of those folks that would like to see a membership or annual fee for those that wanna ride a few times a year. Same as Uwharrie - you ride more than 5 times you're stupid not to buy a season pass. Also Greg's right this is an expensive hobby. For those that have lots of trail rides and lots more expenses than I, like fuel for towing and their rig and few more kids to haul... I understand but looks like we ALL are gonna have to pick and choose which ones we wanna do. Thats' one reason why I haven't made it back to the Flats and can only go to the Farm once a year. Plus URE in your backyard don't hurt either. ;-)

Doug and Len, I appreciate you guys coordinating with Her and being our voice. I felt change was due or coming soon, just didn't know what it would be. Keep up the good work.

We all should support Calla and work with the landowner to keep a good relationship and smiles on everyones faces.
Dumb shit could help too like bringing a box of TP with ya.
How's that idea Doug? ask her if one big box of TP from everyone would help. Might reduce cost.

Also the landownder doesn't really have to be the one to maintain the signs and such.... I could see a club efffort there, like a true GPS/terra map and work towards posting signs where needed. I know you prolly couldn't get it all as new roads are cut every week. But for the main ones.....

Anyhow, I'll shut up and wait for more updates.

Neeta mentioned a yearly pass option for next year when I was out there this weekend. That would be cool, we decided not to go back on Sunday for a few hours just because of the per day costs made it not really worth it for a couple of hours.

Trail markers are the #1 needed item. It would be nice to get trail difficulties on a map as well. We spent a lot of time driving around just looking for trails and then wondering how difficult they were.

I mentioned to her that an air compressor onsite would be awesome for those of us who drive in and out. Just throw a hose out of the building or something for people to refill tires before heading out on the highway. The local gas stations charge and arm and a leg for air.

I'd personally help with signs if I could.
What about forkin over some dough to those members that are closer... Payin
Their costs for goin in and posting signs?
Or hell what about Nita lettin them in for free to map and post signs?

As for air there is a gas station right near the grocery store I swear was 25 cents to fill up on some air. And if that aint right anymore looks like its time to invest in a compressor. You can get a decent size small one for around 60 bucks.

Doug, any other updates?

Every place that I know off that has tried this...jack assess either rip the hose out, steal the chuck, etc...

Just set up an OBA set up you will use it more than you ever imagine or get a power tank, same thing there.

As far as the pond, remember they are opening new full size vehicle trails also...the ATV guys could use your argument against you...and there are waaaay more of them

Accurate Trail Maps and the addition of trail signs/markers will be a big help. I don't know if she knows about Voss Signs, but they are a great resource (I sent a PM to Len with their link a little while back):

http://www.vosssigns.com/Trail.htm

and

http://www.vosssigns.com/RefTrail1.htm

and

http://www.vosssigns.com/Decals.htm

They supply just about everything the Forest Service uses at Uwharrie (and other parks). Even the posts to applies those decals to (3rd link) that would make great trail marker signs. I know they aren't the heavy duty carsonites that the FS have but its better than nothing.

been a crazy few weeks.
I went up saturday and spent the day with hayden.
We started marking all the intersections with numbers, that will be visible from all sides as you approach an intersection.Signs will be bright orange with a number that will corrispond(sp) with a number on the map,we still have a few more days of posting signs.
It's not much of an update, but they are heading in the right way.
Also their little "cafe" seems to be making folks happy and full.

Thanks for all the work Turtle... You should provide some heads up when you are planning a working weekend in Mt City. I live in Abingdon- 30 to 45 minutes away and wheel there alot. I have a 6 month old, so timing won't always work, but I would be more than happy to lend a hand marking or clearing trails- or whatever other work may be needed. She shouldn't pay for all this work to be done anyway. It may take longer, but there are alot of talents from members on here and other local sites (TNMudders, 4wheelingcentral, etc).

My $.02- I hate to see costs of anything rising, but we can make this business successfull AND have a close place to wheel. Institute a yearly pass and I will be one of the first in line.

Anyway- Shoot me an email next time you need some help tdewar@electro-mechanical.com.

Todd

Thanks will do,Am going up tommorrow and put up about 50 more signs at intersections, and get them number'd.....

Warning - Ignorance Alert

When people say they went wheeling at "Mountain City" is this Callalantee?

Yep Mt city and Callalantee are the same place. As soon as I can fix the rear suspension on my rig I plan on heading up there. It'll probably be after the first of the year.

I'll add to the confusion here. When I started going, I was told we were wheeling at Pond Mt.(we were, but that part is off limits now) so in other words... Pond Mt./Callalante is in Mt City TN.

ok got about a third of the intersections on the map, label'd
All the "circles/dots" on the map will end up having a number.
heres some ex:

and a few other signs are up as well,I ran out of signs.

I'll add even more to the confusion, there was also Crackers Neck in MT City which is also now closed.

Well,the improvement are continueing.
They are upgrading to several more 50 amp electric sites, this week.
They are planning to take the 30amps and "recycle" them and add more electric sites along the "road"(leftside) heading to the trails.
Also We have placed over 60 signs marking intersections.
Working with a few members and updating a new map, they spent last weekend running more GPS routes.
The new map will be:huggy:......
Lot's of things going on this winter to get ready for the "grand re-opening" this spring.
Some things include Possible bunk houses that will sleep 4 and the dirt drag strip are a few.

C-Ya all on the trails

Any new word about pricing? I know the deal with passengers they kept saying just wanted to get though some holiday. Have they lowered it yet? What about yearly or monthly passes? What about charging per vehicle instead of per person?
