Ok I have a 2001 S10 blazer 4wd and I need a Automatic Trans 4l60e
Now I have looked at Car-part.com and it seems like 2001 is different that 2000 and 98-99
My question is What is the difference and what years can I use.
Are there parts that I can swap from my old trans to make the older years work?
I basicly only have 1st,2nd and reverse no 3rd or 4th gear.
I am just looking at my options for a used Trans.
Thanks
Carl

I swapped a 2000 4l60e(v6 fullsize) into a 98 Silverado, the only issue I had was the flex plate bolts. I just slotted the holes out a little and it fit fine. I'm guessing the S10s had similar trannys so you should be fine.

here in the next few months ill probably be putting a 2000 s10 trans into my 1996 blazer. So far everything i have looked at is the same up to 2000. I had a guys send me some pics of an 04 and its neutral safety/ Gear indicator switch on the driver side of the trans has only 1 plug instead of 2. Also something about the adapter from the transmission to transfer case i have been told is different. Something like has a 6-bolt to a 5 bolt pattern or something like that. Not sure if any of this helps you or not....

In my experience with these transmissions, when it locks you out of 3rd and 4th gear, but the others work, you have an electrical problem, and the guts of your trans are just fine.

Have you pulled any codes for the trans? I wouldn't be ready to pull it until I found out WHY you have no high gear.

well maybe but since the trans was 1 gallon low and the fluid is brown and burnt I think that is not the problem

if it has no 3rd and no 4th, the 3-4 clutches are gone. 3rd and 4th use the same clutches, the only difference is that the band applies in 4th. if it makes the 1-2 shift it isn't a solenoid because the same solenoid is turned on and off for 1st and 4th

the difference isn't anything you can see. they have different electronics inside because of different clutch configurations in the converter.
if you don't mind me asking, how much are these going for used?
Wrecking yards are 800 +

I have found some on CL fo 250-300

I can get mine rebuilt for $1200. but since I an going to sell the truck I just need one that works good and may last a while.

I recently bought my son a 1994 Z28. The car had a freshly built 4L60E in it and a rebuilt LT1 (I have very detailed receipts and build photos). Long story short, the transmission was a '95 and the ECU is a '94 and it did not lock up correctly. In less than three months the transmission was toast.

My transmission guy told me that the '93-'94 are the same, '95-'96 are the same, and so forth. Running a '95 tranny in the '94 car wound up costing me $1100 to get and rebuild a '94 tranny. Sometimes newer is not better...

I am just repeating what I was told. Check for yourself before you make an expensive mistake.

We are doing a trans swap on a 1995 S-10 that had a 1993 trans in it,and they are right a 1995 is a stand alone trans year, when we got the truck it was fine but within two weeks the trans was shot,so before we went to get a used one I researched and found out about the differences,so we got a trans from a 1995 that is the right one, after I got the bad one out that is when I found the date stamp on it that said 93 so that was the problem, wrong trans wrong codes, when buying used try to go with the same year because newer may be worse then what you have to begin with.
