Yep, 35 years. I was under the impression it was 30 years when I went to get my registration/tag on my 78, and found out it was 35 years, so I had to go back out and get it inspected...3 more years.

You still have to renew the tag/registration every year. Just no inspection.

Yep, Alex thats what I thought, you definately wouldn't have needed a cat either way though, your inspection should've just been safety, basically tires, horn, lights, brakes.

Weird, I used to own a 74 AMX back in 07-09 and I never had to get it inspected.
It would have been 35 years old in 08 I would assume by build date, so you probably wouldn't have needed an inspection. Besides, then you didn't need an inspection to get a registration anyway, so you may have just rolled it illegally for a year, then you were good to go.

I haven't had my 73 rover inspected since 2008.

If it is under 35 years, go get it inspected. Basically, good exhaust, good seat belts, horn, wipers, lights all work. Oh, and have a gas cap.

Make sure all emmissions is still there as well.

In North Carolina it is legal to run a vintage tag on your vehicle IF you also register the vehicle, and keep the current tag with the vehicle. If you are pulled you are required to display the tag to the officer, you don't have to do anything as far as registering the vintage tag. The state still gets there money each year for renewing the tag.
