I took my first trip to URE and it was also my "new" used truck's first trip offroad since I've owned it. Just though I would share the experience...
I went over to the parking lot outside of Wolf Den Saturday morning. There I talked to a man and a lady in a red Jeep that had already been in and out. They said it was very slick. It had rained all day and night on Friday. I was a little concerned, but I followed a white jeep and a blue Cherokee in. The first time they stopped, I got out and talked with them a little. Luckily for me, the guy in the white CJ/TJ (?) knew the trails really well and they told me I could tag along with them.

We turned right off the main trail and went up a fairly steep hill climb. I made it 1/2 way up in 4high, but shifted into 4low after I started slipping on one of the steeper sections that had a big berm at the top of it. It was a good thing I did, because the last section had a few basketball sized rocks in the final hump.

SIDE NOTE: The pics don't do the hill justice, but my photographer had issues. She didn't "want to get her feet muddy"
As continued as a group with the 2 Jeeps and made it to a cool mud hole on Falls Dam trail.

Right as we cleared the hole, there was a traffic jamb with a Range Rover club coming the other way on the trail. The best part was watching a bone stock Disco damage the front "spoiler" / air dam thingy on some rocks while being towed out. The Rover "trail master" guy almost got in a fight with a Jeep guy because he was busting up rocks on the trial so that "his trucks" could make it. Although I'm new to the whole deal, it did seem rather jerky and selfish. Anyway, we decided to go back and play in the mud while the rest of the Rovers cleared the obsticle.

Somehow, backing a big truck up on a trail is not exactly simple, as I learned when I used my exhaust tip as a mud cookie cutter.

I ended up getting seperated from the two Jeep guys somewhere in the traffic jamb. It was okay, as we made it out fine, but I really want to thank them for keeping an eye out. Unfortunately I didn't get their names...

Here are a couple of my favorite images from the trip:

Look at all that "articulation"

Even more front axle "flex":shaking:

Anyway, I had a blast and will definately be headed back. I want to make it again this year before the trails close, but we'll see.

Glad ya had fun, but you forgot rule #1 of 4-wheeling.

Never wheel the tow rig.

Never wheel the tow rig.

Unfortunately, the tow rig is the trail rig for now... That will change soon...

thats NOT a tow rig its 5.4

Damn... [hangs head in shame of non-veggie oil burning powerplant]

Did you climb the side of the mud pit?

Yes, accidently in reverse, hince the tailpipe cloggin. :shaking: Like I said, not exactly the quickest turning rig on the trail.

When we pulled off the trail during the traffic jamb, i pulled off to the side of the mud pit and when we were ready to leave I backed through it, hitting the side with my exhaust.

No problems here!

A real good friend of mine has a 06 250 w/6.0L PowerStroke, so I hear it all the time. Of course I give as good as I get...

I keep telling him to call me when the transmission or the headgaskets blow out so I can come tow him home. :D

yeah that YJ would have to do a lot of tuggin to get you off a rock

By the way, they just wanted to see you break something or get stuck....

I try to know my limits, that's why I stayed on the easier trails. I wasn't really concerned about busting a D60 in 5 inches of mud. I didn't try any rocks that looked "too big", plus I figured if this guy could take his company truck through it, I'd probably make it:

I should have mentioned this earlier, but please listen for a hint of sarcasm in my voice as I'm typing. I can take good natured ribbing pretty well...

I re-read my last post and it sounded a little ass-ey w/o the intended sarcasm.

It wasn't broken. :flipoff2:

ok, it was half broken :flipoff2:

I know what ya mean about slow turning..i took a bone stock extended cab dodge ram through there! As far as never wheeling the tow rig? i think i could have done that trail pulling a trailer! j/k
