I am considering doing powder coating as a side business. I was wondering if there was a market on here for it?

I would be able to do iron, steel, aluminum, stainless steel, titanium, and chrome-plated surfaces.

The largest size would be around 20", and the available colors would be red, blue, black, white, yellow, orange, sage green, textured looking black, and textured looking silver.

pricing will be with you preping (add $5 for me to strip)

$25 for a set of diff covers.
$25 for Valve covers
$7 each for Engine component brackets (or 3 for $20)

This is just a start on pricing......what do you think? Anyone interested?

Yeah not looking to make a ton of money, just wanting to do a bunch of my stuff and some friends stuff and thought I could pay for the equip by selling the service.

I would be able to guarantee my work (from peeling) as long as I strip it.

My opinion, and I looked into this a while ago, for the time you spend prepping, the small size of jobs you get due to oven size, you'll have a hard time making much money. Hot rodders, car restore folks, usually do their own stuff if it's small(equipment isn't that much, used stove works for baking) Off roaders would want bumpers, wheels, etc powder coated, your limited by oven size, and commercial ovens are $$$$.

Just my .02 Good luck with your venture.

We made our own oven, and yes to heat it up you need to be able to do more than just a few pieces. We have done a few things, but not a lot. Intakes, valve covers, diff covers, shorty headers, battery boxes, wheels, about anything up to 40" or so, A lot easier if you are doing in bulk.

Heck yeah man! Sounds cool to me!

Anodizing would be cool to do too.

yep...if you can't do bumpers or rock rails, I'm not sure how much business you'll see...

a couple diff covers, and maybe some bolt on fake beadlock rings...

I have a buddy that does what you're talking about in Raleigh...just has a basic equipment setup and an old kitched oven in his garage...can do up to ~16" rim, or small brackets, etc...

Never understood powder coating rails or diff covers. To each their own.

I never have either, but for what its worth two other powercoaters have opened in the Kernersville area in the past few months just FYI. I know I personally would rather paint my stuff so I have the ability to touch it up.

I was just hoping to do it for fun and maybe make enough to cover expenses and time. Regardless I am going to buy the equipment. I have enough stuff of my own to cover the cost.

I am looking into a larger oven to do bumpers, but I gotta see some interest to spend the dough.

Selling out

I am selling my powder coating suff if interested. I have two guns, 4'x4'x4' home made oven, high temp tape, plugs, caps and probably 75 lbs of powder.
