Rear axle blew up at the best possible time

NOT REALLY.

My rear axle locked up and blew out my driveshaft. Yay.

Next week I have a 25 page paper due, a 10 page paper due, and I have take a final exam.

Luckily my dad said I can borrow his van, so I'm just going to mothball the K5 till at least next weekend.

How do you just lock up a rear axle?

and... I think its time for soem new tires lol.

Gov-lock has been going out, I expected it to grenade but apparently it locked up and the driveshaft let go first.

Ask Lee, he's heard it.

Oh, and I have three really good tires, just need to find a fourth 315/70/17 BFG AT.

I figured since I was working towards replacing the axle anyway, with an 8-lug, no point in swapping tires twice!

I had a pinion bearing fail on my 84 toyota going down a hill 50mph on Ray road years ago. sounded like a bomb went off under the truck and felt like I got rearended it continued to lock and roll until I stopped. What a mess it made of the diff.

I feel your pain. Similar situation, on my way to work one morning last winter. It sucked. The shrapnel even blew a hole in my diff cover.

Yep, although instead of a gov-bomb it ended up being a true gov-LOCK!
