The wife and I are about to hit double digits, and we've booked a stay in Charleston for a long weekend. We went there about 12 years ago when we were dating and really liked the old town with all the architecture. We have been talking about going back since we left years ago. That said I'd like to hear from folks that are more familiar with the area. Are there any places that are "must see", things that are "must do" or restaurants that are "must eat"? Keep in mind we've got 3 days.
If you've been there and would do it again the next visit I'd like to know.
Thanks all.

CSS Hunley The Friends of the Hunley - Worlds First Successful Combat Submarine Like Beer? 10 Charleston Craft Beer Destinations Edmond's Oast would be the one I recommend if you can only hit one. Coast is near the Hunley, Frothy Beard has partnered with Zombie Pizza in their new location and it is great! I've been to Frothy 3 times. Westbrook has a really nice tap room. Palmetto usually has live entertainment on weekends I believe. Get a carriage tour. Do a private one would be even better but they are not cheap I don't think. I don't know if it will help but my girlfriends son (Justin) sells for Classic Carriage Tours and the girl he lined us up with was great. I think they do three different tours. Historical, Civil War, and I don't remember the other one. Go check out the market in Downtown. Some refer to it as the old slave market but it actually was never a slave market IIRC. Art, and sweet grass baskets, leather goods are just a few things there. Laganita's put a brew pub down there too but IDK if it's open yet. Go see the Angle Oak if old trees tickle your fancy. King Street is known for it's shops. I think it's King Street..... That is off the top of my head.... Oh yea two more suggestions. Patriots Point has the USS Yorktown and other Navy ships that are cool and of course Fort Sumter the starting site of the Civil war. Rainbow Row if you want to see multi million dollar houses that are on the water front. Where are you staying? What part of town?

Mills house downtown. So we will be right in the middle of the old town area. And we like beer so we will definitely be checking out some of those tap houses and breweries. Hope to remember how good the beer is[emoji3]

X2 for bowens island. The boat pulls up to the dock, pick up truck backs up to the boat, they unload the oysters, truck drives maybe 100 feet, unload the oysters in the pit, they roast them, and you eat them. It doesnt get any fresher unless you eat them straight out of the water. Get there early. I think they open at 4 and by 4:30 there will be a hour wait but its worth it.

Hymans seafood.
Its in downtown chucktown.

Its a lil pricey but not bad for charleston.

Rodney scotts bbq my old highschool buddy is the pitmaster there and its damn good.

Oh and like ocean and stuff but im all about the food [emoji3][emoji106]

One of my favorite watering holes is The Blind Tiger Pub on Broad Street. Be sure to walk all the way to the back for the outdoor courtyard area.

I second Hymans but watch out for them nasty ass boiled peanuts they try to give you. Was there the first time 20+ years ago and they brought out some boiled peanuts and I'd never had them but figured they must be good as I'd never had a bad peanut. Oh how wrong was I! I spit that nasty thang in the floor and wished that I was double jointed so I could like my own ass to get the taste out of my mouth.

Screw Hymans! You got to wait forever! Go to The Crab Shack on West Ashley road for a bucket of goodness! Magnolia Plantation is great to spend the better part of a day learning some history, checking out the zoo, drinkin a cold beer, and have lunch. Walk the Market and hold her hand and check out all the cool stuff. Eat at Bubba Gumps, it's a fun place. If you can stay at the Ansonborough Inn, you will be very impressed! Do a ghost tour or ride on a horse buggy tour for two.
I love Charleston! Take your good walking shoes.

Every local known to Charleston mocks anyone who eats seafood at Hyman's.
Decent atmosphere..below average, food high prices.

If you want good grub jump across the bridge to Mount Pleasant.
Red Drum, OKRA, and SALT..are my wife's favorites.
Red Drum is a cant miss every trip.

If you like/want BBQ stay the fawk away from Queology. Unless you like boiled Pork drowned in cheap ass sauce.
Lewis BBQ is good, low country style Q

Langdon's and Opal are too more nice restaurants..definitely dinner not lunch spots and depends on your style. These (as well as Red Drum) are a rare couple's no kids dinner spots. Touch more upscale but no where near stuffy.

(BTW my entire post was food. I am a fat man on a diet and starving, but it doesnt show, right?)

These are all great fellas. Thanks for all the suggestions. Really looking forward to this trip!

The aquarium is really cool too. Check it out if you have time.

Hymans a tourist trap IMHO and as @Ron mentioned, below average food with above average prices long wait etc. Next time I'm there I'll take his recommendation and try Red Drum (as a mountain boy I appreciate good seafood).

Poogans Porch (sp ?) has the best shrimp and grits I've ever eaten.

I'd go for the two person ghost tour in a horse drawn buggy. Can't get that around every corner.

We were down there for Memorial Day for our 6yr anniversary. We ate at Coast and Magnolias. GREAT food but I would advice to get reservations(maybe it was just Memorial day, but everywhere was crowded). Both bills ended up being about $100 with drinks/tip etc. We toured the USS Yorktown, Laffey, and the submarine they have there. Took the wife for her first helicopter ride around Ft. Sumter as well. We stayed at a little B&B that was nice. We also did the Civil War carriage tour but I seemed to know more about it than the guide. Didn't get a chance to do any ghost walks but want to do that next time. We also checked out the Blind Tiger Pub for a light lunch and a beer, pretty cool spot.

We parked right next to the City Market every day for $10 a day and there are plenty of parking garages everywhere.

Just finished checking out their website. I'm gonna have to walk the streets Day and night to burn off all these calories. Love good shrimp and grits.

Lots of great suggestions...it all depends on what you like to do. Been here 7 years but haven't really done a lot of of the "touristy" things.

Right now the Spoleto Festival is going on downtown. Lots of artsy stuff if you're into that:p

We went out for our anniversary the other night to Coast and it was some of best seafood we've had in a while. I think @Ron was referencing Pages Okra Grill in Mt Pleasant. Only been there for brunch but it is a definite winner. Reds or Tavern and Table on shem creek are both good. Sit outside and watch the dolphins. Be prepared to wait wherever you go.

I live on Johns Island....If you like good ole country cookin' or BBQ then check out the Tomato Shed for lunch or JBs Smokeshack for dinner. Both are dives but the food is great. Stop by the Angel Oak tree while you're out here, then hit Lowtide Brewing on the way back to downtown.

Ill keep thinking on it.....

Well, let's see, I grew up there. Graduated hs in 04 and moved away about 12 years ago. It's changed a lot since then. As always the food is always good. If you want to go out to eat somewhere really nice and upscale, 82 Queen is a great choice.
