What ever Rob wants to do with it, Thats how businesses work. If this site was a charity you could ask that question. Which I believe a few people already stated.

Just having this site for people like us to meet and interact with others with common interest is all I ask for my $5.50.
 
you know, this kinda brings up a question....

Why do people who dont pay have access to all the same features the paying members do (with the exception of the ability to upload pictures, avatars and have a larger PM mail box as well as access into the garage)?

I kinda feel if the for sale section was made to be donating members only, maybe it would cut down on some of the bad trading?

I suppose that could go both ways though. Either the board gets more donating members, or loses alot of people selling stuff...

i wish it was a paid members only site sometimes. but i guess thats what the clubs are for.

if a burger cost 4 bucks at mcdonalds and they have sold a billlion of them...What the hell are they doin with all that money. those assholes.

maybe set limits only paying members can post anything to the for sale ads and all the others execpt for the general chit chat form. and let that be where people can get to know whos on the site and stuff maybe? just let the people see what is on the site but not be able to post on it? because 5.50 is not enough to make u steer away from a site. that you may only use every so often

ok listen EVERYONE i dont care who pays who dont. i was just wonderin something. ill pay mine and nicks if everyone will just shut up about it. a simple ? turns in to highschool bs. im done on this subject make everyone pay idc.
 
I think i'll just give my 5.50 to sally struthers so she can eat the, uh I mean feed the children.

I think almost everyone here has gotten 5.50 worth of information, parts, etc. from here, not to mention the friends and enemies gained here:beer:

wow this went a little far but that's what happens sometimes..... nickjc wants me to tell everyone just because he's willing and gonna donate 50 bucks when the big tax check comes in!!! and he said the mods could issue red icons to any random members as they see fit!!

i did say it and i mean it. i will give $50 bucks to the site if you select random people and give them the red icon to be members with the money. wow , i do see that some of my ways of saying things are wrong,but i have also got alot of things done in my life that way also.i do love the sport and sorry that i have up set some of you.i do think we should go to telico and grill some grub and all hang out( not wheel) but just hang out, heck anywhere would be cool with me. lets all take it down a little on the bashing.we are hear to have fun and learn from each other.:beer:
 
Donating $50 to the site will not really help the wheeling cause, IMO.

Just send in your $5.50 if you want to, and then join one of the organizations supporting public land access. You can join the Southern Four Wheel Drive Association,http://sfwda.org/membership/index.html , for $30. That includes a membership in the international organization,The United Four Wheel Drive Association, http://www.ufwda.org/ .

Now you have spent $35.50 of your original $50. Take the other $14.50 and a couple of friends and go out for a beer to celebrate the fact that you have done your part in supporting public land access and the sport of 4wd.

OR

Take it up a notch! Send in your $5.50, if you want to, and then join a NC club such as C.O.R.E. or Carolina Trailblazers. You have now spent about $65 but you have membership in all of the above plus a great group of new friends to wheel with, a monthly ride schedule to attend and an even bigger voice as an advocate for 4wd use. Of course your friends won't get a beer this way :(

I'm not sure of the numbers of donating members vs total. But it definitely single digits.

As far as providing 'features' for paid members vs regular members. We struggle with that topic, so any (good) ideas would be considered. We've added the garage section. We have club sections now. So again PM me or what ever any ideas. May not happen for various reasons, but all ideas are at least considered/discussed.

FS section - Thinking is that all the cheap tightwads are the ones selling stuff and that benefits everyone. If it was restricted people would just dump their post in chit chat and we'd have to clean it all up..

And NO, I'm not deleting this thread so stop sending PMs. Think of it as a Red Star member benefit.
 
I would like to make a comment to Mr. Mosh. I am very new to this site and I donated $20. If you read the STICKYS your question would have been answered, then none of this would have started. These people did not bash you, seems like they are concerned about this site. Just be careful what you say or ask. I would have never asked that question, common sense!

That doesn't sound like the worst problem in the world to have. I'm sure we could find something to spend it on.

But 11,718 people don't donate $5.50/yr. Only a couple hundred do. That money pays the hosting fees and a software license or three. The hosting fee isn't terribly expensive, but it sure as hell isn't free. It also increased about 75% this year (we needed more ram).

The good news is that the folks who donate pay the bills. So we don't have to run banner ads or google keywords or any of that stuff. Thanks to the recent server upgrades, we have plenty of bandwidth and disk space, too. So feel free to post as much as you want and upload as many photos as you want. We've got room.

As to the question about what people get for their $5.50, like Yager said, we're open to suggestions. I don't think that charging a fee for the classifieds is the right way to go. Lots of those 11k users are folks that only registered to buy an axle or sell off an old project. Why should we expect them to cough up $5 when they can sell it for free on Craigslist?

That said, there's not really any reason to shake people down for a yearly donation. If they don't want to pay or can't swing it or whatever, that's their business. I'm grateful as hell for the folks that do contribute. It makes things easier on the admin side when we've got the money to upgrade the server as needed. There are enough folks contributing now that it doesn't break the bank if one person decides not to chip in. If that changes, we'll let you know.
 
Very well put saf-t scissors! Just to let you know, other than the money you guys have to spend to keep this site going. It's an awesome site. Look what all we can do! I send extra to make sure it keeps going...If yall ever need help to keep it up, I'm sure most on here will do their best to keep it going... I appreciate this site and all of you that bust butt to keep it up FREE of charge, I may add. Thanks NC4X4!!!!!!!
