OK it's not a 4x4 but it will be worthy I hope. Quick run down junkyard 97 Dodge 1500 nothing special. For the good stuff 12 valve cum apart fresh bottom end larger cam can't remember the specs but I will get them it's the largest one without having to fly cut the Pistons.ARP head studs the head has been ported and polished, fire ring, titanium valves keepers and locks, beehive springs. 13mm pump Fass fuel 250 HP 7 hole injectors 2 kits of nos and water meth 75 mm turbo with t4 flange. Sunco transmission. You get the point.

I did a 181/210 Hamilton cam in mine...made a huge difference! I also love my 7 hole injectors...so much better than 5 holes.

Is this going to be street legal or play only? I ask b/c it it's a 97 (OBDII) for emissions. You mess with the pump and or gov spring yet? Keep us posted as you make progress. Looks like fun to me.

My p pumped 1st gen had the same cam it's 188/220 before you have to fly cut but they told me that if your head or block has been decked that it could need Pistons on a side note you don't have a ve pump or gated hx35 you want to sell

I have an hx35 it needs repaired thou and for the record this truck has been put together before with a 64 mm turbo stock cam and no nos it ran 7:50s in a 1/8 it has also had some suspension work 2500 springs and struts locked with track bars I am hoping for 7 flat or maybe even high 6s

4500 hundred springs and 13mm plungers in the pump tagged and insured my county is one of the few in the state that still doesn't require obdll to pass inspection

Diesels are safety only in most of NC, maybe all. I'm not sure about the full communist counties.

Exemptions
The following types of vehicles do not need an OBD emissions inspection:

  • Model 1995 vehicles, or older
  • Diesel-operated vehicles

Pretty sure, you have to go through the paperwork to switch the title to diesel.

@BRUISER went through this with his crew, iirc.

Totally missed the 1500 part. Good point.

After a mishap with my engine builder I am finally going together with it the larger cam has to have 24 valve tappits my engine man put 12 valve tappits back in witch is taller then 24s so out with the cam and in with new tappits

The tappets aren't different heights, they're different widths. The shoulder appears shorter, but the point at which the pushrod sits in the cup of the lifter is almost identical to the OEM 12 valve lifter. Close enough in height to use the factory length push rods.

I used them (24 valve) when I did my cam swap as well. The width helps them ride over the lobe of a more aggressive cam without trying to dig and also gives it more wear surface for oil to get under, which helps it last longer.

The tappits are 75 thou shorter on a 24 with the work that has been done to the head and block I could not run them the lash was to tight

If 24s are shorter, how is the valve lash too tight?

For real though....there's a LOT of adjustment on the rocker arms on a 12 valve. Besides, why would he go through the trouble of pulling the cam and tappets back out to run a narrower tappet on a more aggressive cam lobe instead of just measuring for new push rods?

How much was the block decked? And how much were the heads surfaced? What thickness is the head gasket? There's got to be a drastic change if you ran out of lash adjustment on the rocker arms.

The lash was to tight with 12 valve tappits in it now that it has 24 valve tappits back in it is fine when I get another 24 valve tappits I will take a pic with a 12 valve tappits and a 24 valve tappits side by side with the same length push rod in them and a straight edge across the top and show the difference. With the head being shaved and the block decked to raise the compression I don't have much adjustment left for stock push rods

That's why I asked how much it was decked, how much the heads were surfaced, and how thick the head gaskets are. All of that obviously changes the distance between the tappet and rocker arm.

I've seen the 12s and 24s side by side. They have a different overall height, but the pushrod cups are very close to the same height from the face to the cup, but since the cups are made for a larger diameter on the 24s, the pushrod can sit a little lower in it.

The way it was worded, I thought he put it together with the 24s and took them back out to put in 12s. That would have been asinine! :D

Carry on!

Had a good day today fired it up with the old header and 64mm turbo to get the cam broke in check for leaks. Speed steed header and spool flange will be here next week that gives me time for some much needed wire management.

Hell yeah! Go B.

Needs more fuel to fit in with the flat billers. And stacks.
