1948 CJ-2A "resto-mod" build.

Ferk yeah. Set aside that tranny and t-case too! haha

Don't worry the trains and tcase have your name all over it. I would totally be there if it wasn't for valentines day haha

Swapped in rear JK coils to the front. They are pretty smushy and fit my coil buckets well. Got my panhard brackets - will be getting into that later this week. Maybe some steering too ?!?

Steering parts come in on Thursday. Look for big progress.

Frame end panhard bracket and axle end panhard bracket are on - just waiting on some parts in the mail to show up and the suspension will be done!

Haven't posted on this in a while. Not too much done, but will post more pics.

As of last week:

Time to update this thread, as a lot of work has been going on that several folks may want to see.

So we took the jeep out of storage and got back to work, with the plan of running a L-134, T-90, and Dana 18/20 hybrid case with Teralow 3.15 gears.

After really getting into the frame and tub, we cut out a lot of cancer spots and fully plated both sides of the frame with 1/4" steel. I cut off all the existing suspension I had previously mocked up.

At this point, it looked like this:

Then it took a turn into more of a buggy build than a resto-mod, when I picked up this:

And a SM465.

So now, the plan is triangulated 4-link front and rear on air shocks, propane 350, SM465, Dana 18/20 Teralow. Final drive is 85:1 with the SBC.

Front axle is FJ-40 center section with Dana 44 outers. I'm running a stock length chromo inner on the passenger side and custom Dutchman shaft on the long side, 4.10s, 760X joints.

Rear axle is FJ-40 with disk brakes, 4.10s.

I got an Advanced Adapter kit to mate the Dana 18/20 w/Teralow to the SM465, using a replacement main shaft in the SM465 with a 5/8" adapter. The trans and t-case are 1.5" longer than the stock willys combo.

Seats are Corbeau SS, pics to come.

The jeep as it sits now (don't mind the angle iron, it's holding the body together :flipoff2:):

So what started out as a neat resto-mod build with a 4 cyl turned into a SBC chevy buggy build. And that's alright with me :D The goal is to be sub-3500 lbs when complete.

More pics to come.

Looking really good. Glad to see another Willy's on the board getting built. How much are you stretching the nose for the SBC? Running 38-40" on the stock wheelbase should be interesting. Any plans to stretch the frame/body? My 48 will be on 36" iroks but the PO had it on 42s with a 9" stretch in the rear.

Not stretching the tub and frame length whatsoever. The wheelbase, however, will be about 18" longer than stock.

I've cut the fan shroud off the grill so a radiator can sit where the shroud used to be, and cut a whole in the firewall for the distributor.

Right now it's sitting in the shop.

We cut out the majority of the floor and front of the rear fenders to be able to slam the seats.

They'll also have a bit of a gangster lean on them, to fit my big ass in there comfortably without doing any tub stretching.

Work is being done by Chris M @ Nomad Fab in Boone; Meat Camp Rd.

I was wondering if @ChrisM was doing this one. He mentioned to me a while ago he had a Willys he was working on. Have you reworked the floor area yet? What are you going to do for pedal positions? Using the original steering column?

Made this MC bracket to run original pedals. Planned to do something similar for a hydraulic clutch. This has since been cut off as it was interfering with getting the 350 where we wanted. I have an idea to mount the MC "backwards" with a pivot point for the pushrod, but at this point, pedals will be figured out later.

Got some motor mounts mocked/tacked up this past weekend, final welding not yet done. Rear cross-member to come.
