Here's my son's. He's going for speed. It's faster than last year's, which won Pack and was #2 Tiger Cub at District by .003. We'll see how it does.
Wheels look funny, guess it was the flash or something. And yes, one is orange.

They look funny because of the graphite.... Ask my wife why we cant use the bar to test our cars anymore....

The 2 boys did OK, the silver one was fast, but his wolf pack was very competetive. 2 of the Wolfs were in the top 3 of the pack. The green one is Tiger cub, he had a wheel rubbing and didnt win many races. I threw together the General She for my daughter (twin of our Tiger cub), it won the open class. It was pretty fast, that little notch under the front end allowed it to drop off the pin first, it was a car length ahead of everyone from the get-go.

RenegadeT, you're not supposed to help him(Snappy).

Need more pics please!

There needs to be two Pinewood Derbys... one for the Dads, and one for the kids! Yeah, I did one too... way back when.

Girl Scouts. Powderpuff Derby. Exact same thing as the Pinewood, even uses the Boy Scout kit.

Me likey the idea!! Now I have to find out about the girl scouts for my little one, this may interest her, she loves the out-of-doors.

Can't wait to do it with my boys.

When I was a kid my dad and I built a car the first year and it didn't move at all. Like they dropped the stand and the thing sat there.

I was so sad I cried, my dad was bound and determined to win the next year. My grandfather and him built a little replica track and we built 3 cars and he did all kinds of tests and things on it to figure out which one was the fastest with which setup on it, etc. The thing destroyed everyone, like some cars weren't even halfway down when mine crossed. It was awesome.

Ours was last weekend. We (I mean he) came in fourth in his pack out of 11. We do a outlaw class where there are no rules other than (this year) an 8 oz weight limit. I ran my OLD R.A. racer but it was still 5 oz so I lost. Had a good time though!

Ours is next weekend. We have an open class too for family. We are slightly behind the eight ball building my sons (tiger) but I've helped build my nephews so I hope we'll knock out a quick one. It's easy to get carried away as a dad. I liked waiting until the last minute to cut down on my "tuning".

Our Derby was today. My son won the Wolf/Bear division, and the overall Pack. District race in 2 weeks at Crabtree Mall.

He won in spite of the Cubmaster accidentally knocking his car off the starting line and messing up the front wheel alignment. He had won a couple of races before that, and was winning by over 2 car lengths. That took his margin down to about a car length, then when he got matched up on the Pack race against the other winners, the races were very close. We'll get that fixed before District.

I picked up some tuning tools. We are doing the rail rider setup and the early strat mod on my car to see what it is all about...

District race was this past Saturday. Tried to fix the car after the fall it took at the Pack race. Never really could, and since I was having shoulder surgery 2 days later, I really didn't have time to help my son prep a new set of wheels and test the car, which I suspect is the problem.
At district, it ran 2.78-2.80's. Last year's car ran 2.77-2.78 on the same track.
As originally built, this year's car was about a car length fast than the old one. The best I could get it after the fall was basically dead even.

Oh well, my son had a good time anyway. Won something in the raffle, so he was happy. Girl Scout Powderpuff Derby is next, in April. We'll see how we do.
