2013 pinewood derby cars

Me likey the idea!! Now I have to find out about the girl scouts for my little one, this may interest her, she loves the out-of-doors.
The Girl Scouts' Powderpuff Derby is the exact same thing, with only one difference: Each year they have a "Theme" for the cars. So you're encouraged, but not required, to build/decorate your car to meet whatever the theme is that year. You don't have to. You CAN just build a thin, flat, fast car.

We like to split the difference. Last year's theme was "Under the Sea". So ocean-based cars.
This is what we came up with:
Sort of "Hammerhead Shark-shaped". Has a Hammerhead on top of it. Painted gray like a shark, and the paint is Rustoleum's "Hammered" paint. And the pictogram on the back. I came up with that.

What's the best lube for the wheels/axles?
If you are required to use graphite, like 99.9% of racers are, Hob-E-Lube is pretty much the best. AC Moore has it.
Don't use that Teflon crap they sell at the Scout store, it's awful. Any graphite is better than that, but according to most of the "Pros" that race in the adult leagues, the Hob-E-Lube is hard to beat.

I like the one with the fenders. My daughter wants fenders for her Powderpuff Derby car this year.
Notice is a fast start car? I still have to bend a piece of welding rod to make the front flat across. I will be setting the wire hig so that when the pin starts to drop, the car gets a jump....kind of like Tony's only within the rules.....

Yeah, can't do that around here. I'd have a slot in all of ours if we could. I did notice today that the Powder Puff rules have changed, and no longer say you have to have all 4 wheels on the ground. 3 wheel rail rider is the plan now.

wait a minute...shaving the underside of the nose isnt legal (for regualtion races)? How is that worded?

and FWIW, the General She has a front wheel in the air.

I was referring to the notch in the middle of the front end of the car. That lets the car essentially get a head start because the car is actually sticking out past the starting rod. I know he said he was going to bridge the gap with a rod, and I assume probably angle it up a bit so the car sort of "climbs" the starting rod.

Don't think it's illegal to shave the bottom of the car, as long as it's solid across the front. Shaving the bottom really makes almost zero difference, compared to wheel/axle prep and alignment. That's what is going to win the race. Most really good cars are pretty much even on the slope, but when they hit the straight, that's when you see who has the best alignment and axle/wheel prep.
Shaving underneath, I'd wager doesn't help even a fraction. The starting block goes down faster than the car can move. It's gone in an instant...the car can't "ride up" the little pole or rod that holds it back.
I guess, unless you have a manual one at your Pack race where the person doing it moves it too slow. But at the District race, and at any race where the starting line is operated correctly, there is no advantage to be had.

Our District rules have this one that prevents the notches and such:

g) The front end of the car is to be solid, (meaning no notches, grooves, or slots) that would give the car an
unfair advantage at the start.

I'll need to throw up a picture but wanted to brag that my son won his pack races a couple weeks ago. I got a few eat chit looks from some dads since he was a tiger and this was his first time. Didn't hurt that he and I had been building cars for the family open class division for the last couple years since his cousins were already in the pack. He told me this year he wanted to win a trophy since they only give out printed certificates for the family races. It never took any coaxing to get him into the shop to work on his car.
