2025 battery thread (I need a new one)

Lots of folks run only and promote only AGMs these days.

There is at least an intelligent debate and discussion over whether that's ideal. However ...deep cycle batts as cranking batts will unquestionably have shorter life cycles..

Agm won’t corrode, that’s worth its weight in gold for me as I have so much stuff that sits around. Corrosion travels too and kills wiring

Do you use die-electric grease on your DC connections? The only AGM I am using now is in a ATV. Everything else is regular batteries wet cell, and I do use die-electric grease on the connections, and zero corrosion issues.
The last Battery I replaced was the one in my Crawler, At the time, money was an issue. I bought a Rebuilt battery from O'Rielys, Price?... $40 lus tax. Wasn't really rebuilt, just re-stickered, as that's what they do with batteries that sit on the shelves too long, I think it's one year??? It was a truck battery, Turns the engine over faster that the previous 2 Duracell AGM's, they lasted me 6 years, purchased from Sam;s Club at $189, after tax and exchange. Granted, that was 8 years ago

Ummm….
AGM has the same acid just soaked into a fiberglass mat…

If a loose connection it will corrode and oxidize just the same.

AGM is better in harsh vibration environments - but it’s a worse transfer medium.

only AGMs these

You buy an AGM (theoretically) for improved vibration resistance. Like, miles and miles of washboard road. That said, this one acted like it had a shorted cell. Doesn't make sense to me, but maybe somebody else can explain it.

I bought a Walmart AGM today. Four year warranty. $180. We'll see how it does.

Don’t the AGMs corrode the terminals less because they don’t vent? All my AGMs have not had any corrosion, while I have to clean the corrosion off the terminals whenever I change out a conventional, plus clean the mess off the battery hold down and tray

Yeah, they’re sealed. I’ve never had one leak or have any corrosion on the terminals. Including the two mounted on their side in my buggy.

The one on the top costs $180 and has a four year warranty. The one on the bottom is $270 and has a three year warranty. Otherwise identical, same reserve capacity, etc.

Almost like they were both made by 1 of the 3 battery manufacturers. I get a heck of a deal through O’Reilly and can get them cheaper than Walmart prices. So I go that route. Plus they save to your number at parts houses. Walmart, you better have that receipt

Man Walmart ain’t that bad, it’s like tsc and hf. You go in and come out with 50 things you didn’t know you needed

I get angry when going to Walmart here unless it’s really early morning, busy as hell with rude ass people. I’ll pay the delivery tip on Walmart plus before I go into the store normally.

Slightly less warranty but you don’t have to go into a Walmart 😂
Yeah, good point. If I bought that one, I'd be shelling out $180 at month 37 when it suddenly decided to (intermittently) become a five cell battery. Totally worth it.

Walmart is the place to buy oil, filters, and batteries. No membership fees, either

That's my point. But people like to go "ew, Walmart yucky".

I think it’s the people there lol 😂

Fucking Walmart battery bit the dust. The charger has been trying to pick it up all day, but it's still at 10 volts. Junk.
